My laptop began to slow and IE loaded slowly, a look at the router DHCP clients revealed extra users. My SSID broadcast was off. I did get a notice that an intrusion had been stopped by Norton. I changed the name and password of the router, the IP addresses of the clients, and reduced my DHCP availability from 50 to 4 users. I have since read that this type of router has a WPS flaw that allows a password to be determined, and the users are from overseas and are 'just using my internet connection'. My questions are: 1) Why do they need my internet connection if they are already on and able to detect my router? To mask their true location? 2) Will my changes from the default IP and client reduction help at all? 3) What else can I do to prevent any further issues? Should I get a router from a different maker? 4) Is there any likelihood that any of my personal info was compromised or do the hackers just care about the ISP access? Thank you.
