I'm thinking about setting up a network, to run two Desktop PC's running Windows XP, to my ISP's modem. Before I rush out and spend money foolishly buying the wrong equipment, I thought I would ask for comments here.
My ISP's download speed runs about 6.5 Mbps, so do I really need to buy a 54, 150 or 300 Mbps router? Reading reviews doesn't seem to help because some people like a certain router but others say don't waste your money. I will only be using the second PC to surf the web, read articles and update programs. I won't be playing games, downloading movies or music, to either PC.
The distance between the two PC's is about 25 feet, so I have been just unplugging one PC from the ISP's modem and plug in the other PC. Just as easy to set up a wireless or wired network. If I go with a wireless network, I guess I'll need a router and an adapter. Again some people like USB adapters and others suggest going with the PCI card, any major difference?
Thanks for any help.
