i have faced RPC virus many times... but this time its not getting removed....
any more tips ?
thank you mates :)
Please download the Norton Antibot from here. http://shop.symantecstore.com/store/symnahho/en_US/ContentTheme/ThemeID.106300/pbPage.Trialware_en_US
And see what it can do for you
Have you tried a Full System Scan in Safe Mode with Updated Virus Definitions?
Also, Norton AntiVirus 2009 does not have a Firewall.

Either that, or (even better IMO) ThreatFire, which is completely free and developed by the newly acquired company; PC Tools. I find it much more thorough in its monitoring in comparison to Anti-Bot, and the Norton 2009 products already include Anti-Bot functionality (which means it may still not detect it just because you install the full, separate program + that it's not free at all). For example TF detected the behaviour of a bot/worm which the new NIS2009 with all of its components wouldn't react an inch to. The threat had been lying there for several days without detection though it was doing all kinds of stuff. :S There's much more to say about TF, but you can go to their homepage and download it and find out by yourself here: www.threatfire.com - Hope this helps! ;)
BTW… Have you checked that the RPC-service(s) is even off and it’s not just a lame fake-virus doing the shutdown command? Such a fake virus has the same type of window and can contain the same kind of text.

Well mate, the RPCservice is fine, but when that virus comes up, we cant disable that service.. its something very serious kinda virus, i tried disabling this service from Services, but unable to do it, thanks!
Wow! Finally REMOVED it ! this was the virus :
USED Norton AntiBot and got rid of it. i hope it doesnt comes back :D LOL!
A very big thanks to Stu, RavenMacDaddy and all mates who tried to help me :-)
thanks
I’m glad you got it sorted and impressed that the full Anti-Bot application did the trick. Shows that even if Norton 2009 implements some of the technology, the separate software is still far from not useful anymore.
Also a very good sign that it detects processes and other content connected to the threat; traces. ThreatFire from what I know only detects separate processes when they do something in comparison. Out of curiousity… did Anti-Bot take care of this automatically since it had such a high rating, or did you get a lot of prompts from it?
Great work.
Good to hear this did the trick for you. Please feel free to contact us if you have any other questions

Anti-Bot took care of this nearly automatically,it just prompted once to lemme know it caught the virus and just asked me to reboot the pc in order to remove the files, and after reboot Anti-Bot Showed Sucess Message dispalying virus files in quarantine and then from there i permanently removed those :D
thanks
didnt 2008 also implement antibot features? Antibot scans for over 300 features of malware, such as does it create a desktop icon, an uninstall entry, etc.etc. I heard that Norton 360 did too…
hello mates,

Some more info :
I am using Windows XP SP 3
I Downloaded Norton Antivirus 2009, Ran the live update. and updated to latest versio,
I tried scanning 3 times. but the virus is still there...
please help me mates
thankyou :)
I am not too sure on how to remove the virus but I can tell you how to stop your computer form restarting.
Go to Start, Run, Type: Services.msc, Hit Enter
The Services window should open
Scroll down until you see: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) (There should be 2 of them, one with the word Locator and one without, we will be working with the one without the word Locator)
Double click on: Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Select the Recovery Tab
And then select the following:
First Failure: Take No Action
Second Failure: Take No Second
Subsequent Failures: Restart The Service
This is just a fix to prevent your computer from shutting down. It will not remove the virus, but should allow you to be able to get online long enough so you can find options on how to remove the virus.
Best of luck
