Of course why not. Running  Live Update automatically or manually gets the same results.

Thanks for the info, this now leads me to the next question on occasions when selecting Run LiveUpdate I receive the following error8921,229 and fails to connect to the server. Any information would be helpful

Try to download the definition file from this web page .

http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=n95

I am having the same problem with Live Update. Sometimes, i have to restart the computer to make the Definition Update(Pulse) back to normal. I think symantec should improve the Live Update in NAV2009/ NIS2009. There are still some problems to get updates.

Pulse updates download only virus definitions, but the running LiveUpdate downloads both product updates and virus definitions.

Do you have any other security products or firewall programs installed in your computer?

If yes, please try the document 8921,229

I have 2 Firewalls the BT Home Hub and the NIS Firewall. I first disabled the BT Home HUB Firewall, but the problem still occurred. I then referred to the document 8921,229  This directed me to check out the NIS Firewall Rules at Internet Settings - Smart Firewall - Program Control

I then added a custom internet access for C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Engine\16.0.0.125\ccSvcHst.exe and set to Allow

Note: Remember to put in your Norton Product and serial Number as stated in the document

After testing a number of times the Run LiveUpdate has never failed

I am surprised that NIS didn't automatically set the Firewall Rule for internet access when running LiveUpdate

Thank you for all your contributions and advise

mickb, this may have also been due a problem with the LiveUpdate servers earlier. See this thread for a little more information.
