Rundll32.exe and NAV2008 scans

Awhile back I had a question why so many rundll32.exe instances would be logged everytime I would run a quick or full system scan of NAV2008. There were some answers but not that clear. Hoping that with some time there may be answers. Use NAV2008 on Vista Home premium OS with the Vista Service pack 1

seems that when I run a scan the activity log will show 4 instances of

C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe attempting to access the internet

Then log will show

NAV32.exe attempting to access the internet

After the scan is complete there will be 2 more intances of

C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe attempting to access the internet  for every tracking cookie found

My original question is why so many instances of C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe attempting to access the internet?
