Running Disk cleanup

I run the Disk Cleanup over and over but it always leaves Web Clien Temp files at 32.

It will not cleanup over 700 000 kb of Compressed old files.     Why ?

Restarting before/after disk cleanup has no effect of the compressed old files.  This has been an on-going thing. I do not understand why  the Norton 360 does not take them away.  Thanks.

Harry  I have norton 360 and use window xp home.

You can find the exact version of your Norton product from Help & Support > About. What are those compressed files? Are those compressed files located in your Windows Temporary Folder? Can you provide the filename(with extension) for any of those compressed files?

Thanks again.   No help.    I run the HP file cleanup on his computer.   it leave  WebClient/Publisher Temporary Files   32KB

It leaves over 600 000 KB  of  "Compress Old Files" .  I have no way of finding out what these files

are or these extension.  I run the Norton 360 and it does not get rid of them either.  Tom D

Can you check the version of the Norton 360 you have.

Harry has already gave the instructions to check that.

Also please check if you have any other antivirus products installed like AVG,Mcafee,Spysweeper,Microsoft Security Essentials etc.

If yes, please remove them and try.

Thanks Again.    I have Norton 360 Premier Edition.    I cannot find any other security system.  This machine did come with McAfee.  I did add RAM but it just fills up more..

Tom3d,

The WebClient/Publisher temporary files are different from the normal Windows Temporary files/Internet Temporary files. As per the following Microsoft article, the WebClient/Publisher service maintains a cache of accessed files from the Internet on this disk specifically for functions associated with WebClient, like publishing a file or folder to Web:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956324

You need to disable the WebClient Service, and then remove those files manually.

1. Click Start > Run.
2. Type the following and click OK.
services.msc
3. The Services window appears. In the right pane, right-click  WebClient service, and select Properties.

4. Change the startup type to Disabled, and click Apply.

5. Click Stop, then click OK.

6. Close the Services window.

7. Restart the computer, and then delete the files manually.

The files wont reappear again as you have disabled this service. Let us know if this helps.

Thanks,

HarryP
