After all the problems that I had, I decided not to renew my subscription when it expired four weeks ago. My problems were probably mainly caused by Microsoft doing whatever it can to force users to move to Defender, Edge, Bing and all the stuff that I really don't want to use. But they won - and Norton as a company seem not to want to take them on. I hope that things will change in the future so that I can get back to Norton. The two things that I miss most are the Safe/Vault and the Safe Search colour codes?
Thank you all those who have helped me over the years, very patiently.
As far as I can see, none of the Password Manager products available at the moment use the Safe Search coloured flags. But Password Managers seem to be trending - here are just three of the articles I found very quickly:
You're all great!! and a happy healthy 2018 (Thank you Huw!) That some, not all, of my problems disappeared after I'd uninstalled Norton is not a reflection on Norton - but in my view it's simply that blasted Microsoft are creating most of the conflict problems. They want to control every aspect of Users - security/search/browsers etc. Google next no doubt.
I still miss the Safe Search, the green, grey and red flags - the best on the market and no-one else offers that, as far as I can see. Others in MS Community have said the same. To whom should I suggest that Norton should consider selling it as a standalone Product? Might be a good door-opener for other products.
If you are a good boy we will think about it .... and wait for you find out that the alternative security applications suffer from all the same problems ..... and don't have these wonderful forums and people to help them!
Taffy:
Will I still be allowed to come to the forum?
Of course! You don't have to be using Norton to visit and post here, or I wouldn't still be a Guru.
I wish you all the best with your current setup. Windows Defender is getting better all the time, especially if you can make a few risk reduction tweaks. This is a Norton forum so I won't elaborate on those, but I know you're are member of other forums and I'm sure someone can point you in the right direction.
These forums aren't going anywhere in a hurry so I hope you can always feel welcome to pop in and visit when ever you like.
About the SafeWeb annotations in Google / Bing searches, they aren't in Firefox anymore anyway. You can still always set your machine or router to use Norton ConnectSafe, which still blocks known phishing and malicious websites.
