I have installed Norton Safety Minder on my computer and am checking it out before installing on my other computers. We have used both SafeEyes and Bsecure. I really like some fo the features of the Norton like dispersing religious and government sites as both the other programs put those under news which was very frustrating. I also like being able to see what they are typing into the search engines instead of just seeing how many hits they had to google. This is much more useful. However I have noticed that the Safe Search is very much not safe. I have it all set up correctly and when you go to google and do a search it does say "SafeSearch: Strict" but trusting google to determine what is safe is not really my idea of a good working program. I typed in the the words "breast" and "sex" and the porn images that popped up would blow your mind. I do not need my curious ten year old son getting sucked into a world of porn becuase he was curious what would happen if he typed in those words. This really should be something that my online family safety should not allow. Does Norton have plans to fix this function so that we don't have to rely on Google or any other search engine to determine what is safe for our families? Is there anything at this point that I can do besides just blocking images.google.com? Thanks!
Hi Herford,
Thanks for your inquires. The program currently doesn't support rating each pictures. Google has to determine which one is inappropriate. For websites, when a kid is trying to access inappropriate websites and the categories of the websites are being blocked or these websites are on the blocked list, then the kid is not able to access the websites though the websites are being listed on the search result page.
I'll pass along your suggestions to our management team.
Thanks,
Katie
