For years I've been able to get the green, gray, and red site-safety notifications next to Google hits when Safe Search is enabled in IE. As of today, the notifications are gone. Norton's preferred Safe Search engine, ASK! — which is apparently now the ONLY Safe Search engine that Norton supports — is grossly inferior to Google. On a critical subject a few minutes ago I got just one hit on ASK and 13 hits on Google for identical search terms.
I renewed my Norton Internet Security subscription for two years recently and now bitterly regret it. I do extensive research on the Internet and depend on Google. Now I have the choice between 1) a grossly inadequate number of browser hits or 2) a high probability of selecting unsafe browser hits — an unacceptable choice that defeats the purpose of a security suite.
Can this be solved ... even if it means recommending a competitive product that will evaluate Google hits? I'm open to another product if it saves me from an infected PC.
