I've used NIS for many years. Present version is NIS 2010 and running on Windows Vista.
Under Windows Vista, the safe web icons are shown immediately when I do a google search.
Last week, I bought a new PC that runs Windows 7. When I do a google search, the safe web icons took about 10-40 seconds for them to show up in the google search results. This happens for all google searches.
Why did the safe web icons take longer to show up in Windows 7? Is there some setting that I need to configure?
I like the safe web settings because if the site is malicious, I know right away with a red icon. In Windows Vista, the safe web icons show up immediately, and I noticed it immediately and did not click on it. But in Windows 7, it takes longer for the safe web icons to show up, this potentially can cause me to click on a malicious link without knowing it.
The attach pdf file shows the screenshots showing the google results, one with safeweb icons and one without safe web icons. The screenshot without safe web icons showed that there was a pause long enough for me to take a screenshot.
What do I need to do to make the safe web icons show up immediately in Windows 7, just like it did in Windows Vista?

I have Windows 7 Home premium 64-bits and Norton Internet Security 2010 Version 17.8.0.5
The screenshots are from Internet Explorer 8 32-bit edition.
I tried doing a google search on Internet Explorer 8 64-bit edition and the safe web icon do NOT show up.
I installed NIS on the new PC a few days ago. Ran Live Update. No other security (anti-virus, etc) software used previously. It is a brand new PC.
One other observation (on IE 32-bit, the safe web icons do not show up on IE 64-bit):
If I type a common term like "imdb", "cnn", "yahoo", "bbc", "youtube" in Google search, the safe web icons came out fast.
If I type a not-so-common term like "windows update", "lycos", "amazon", "barack obama", "open office", "halloween costumes", it takes 10 to 40 seconds for the safe web icons to show up. Typing the seach a second time, it comes out fast but not always.
Weird. I have Windows 7 64 bits and the terms "Windows Update" and the other "slow" term you mentioned appeared within 1-6 seconds. How fast is your internet? Perhaps the speed of your connection is a factor?
Can you clarify then, do you have the problem using the 32 bit version of IE?
Also to clarify, you said you have no other security software installed because it is a new PC. Can you double check this? Again, MOST new computers have security software installed in trial mode. So there could well be one there even though you did not install it yourself. I would encourage you to go through your start menu looking for other security programs. Ones such as McAfee, etc.
If it is working on the 32 bit version but not the 64 bit version, this is perfectly normal as 64 bit is not supported.
I also noticed that you don't have the safe search box on your Norton toolbar in IE. Do you have this option as illustrated in the image below?
Thank you floplot for letting me know IE 64-bit is not supported.
Tywin7, I have high speed internet connection.
Allen, The PC came with a pre-installed NIS 2010. I have the box version of NIS 2010 and I thought I used mine instead of the pre-installed NIS 2010. Someone else was setting up the PC for me. He uninstalled the pre-installed NIS 2010. I then installed NIS 2010 from the box version. There was no errors during the installation and I registered NIS 2010 and ran Live Updates. This copy of 3-user NIS 2010 was purchased some months back and I am installing on a second computer. The first was on the Vista computer.
Yes, I have the "Enable Norton Safe Search" enabled, see attachment.
Yes, I may have remove the safe search box on your Norton toolbar in IE. I don't know/can't remember how I did it, if I had removed it. I may have removed it from Tools - Internet Options - General Tab - Search settings. I remember removing Bing and leaving Google as I don't need/want anything else that will take resources when I'm surfing (see attachment for screenshot).
Yes, the problem is on the 32 bit version of IE. The safe web icons takes longer to show up on google search.
Is it due to that I don't have safe search box on your Norton toolbar? Or something else?
No, the Norton safe search is not a problem since the option to enable it is there. I just wanted to make sure the option was present to ensure there was not a problem.
It is good to know that NIS was the one which was preinstalled on your new computer. I like to be really careful on this part because many people don't realize that a new computer comes preloaded with something like this.
If everything else is working properly for you except for this I would recommend that you go ahead and update to NIS 2011 as this might resolve some issues in this area also. Please proceed as follows.
If you use Identity Safe you should back up this data first as a precaution. Please see this link for details on how to do this.
Please download the full version of NIS 2011 from here. Please note that this is the English version so please let me know if you need a different language and I will provide the appropriate link.
Also as a precaution you can get your Norton product key from your Norton Account.
For your protection, disconnect from the Internet before continuing.
You can install NIS 2011 right over the top of 2010.
Once NIS 2011 is fully installed and you have restarted your computer then please connect back to the Internet and run live update on NIS (rebooting as requested) until it reports there are no more updates.
Hope this helps and please let us know how it goes.
