Safe web in Safari - how do I turn it off?

When I last updated my Norton it offered me the opportunity to turn on safe web in Safari. It's driving me crazy. How do I turn it off please?

Thanks,

Diane

Hehe, my pleasure... :)

As for...

disabling it (Norton Safe Web for Safari on Mac) would disable Norton (Security for Mac) entirely

you may read the following articles:

  • "Norton Security retains all components of Norton Internet Security (including the antivirus, firewall and identity theft components)" -- recommended, as it's simple, yet complete.

  • Symantec Norton Security Premium (an in-depth review from PCMag)

And, you can try other better browser app for Mac, such as Firefox for Mac (browse the long list, choose the one that works for you perfectly), Chrome for Mac and alike. To get the general info on your Mac, hit your desktop > hit the Apple logo, enter About This Mac:

Thanks, I found the slider, but it turned off Safe Web altogether. I've since found out (see below) that to fix my problem, which was actually "Safe Search", not Safe Web, it was just a matter of disabling the Safari extension - a new thing to me as I've only recently changed from PC to Mac, but thanks so much for responding to me.

Diane

Thanks so much. I was confused about the extension because it wasn't listed as "Safe Search", but as "Norton Internet Security". I thought disabling it would disable Norton entirely. It all became clear with your instructions.

Thanks again,

Diane

@Diane Cranson: usually, you can manage your installed add-ons on Safari for Mac this way:

Open the Safari app > hit Safari’s logo > hit "Preferences…" > head to Extensions tab, as shown below > locate the said Norton Safe Web and/or other unused/undesired items -- I just take uninstalling DDG for Safari as an example here > enable "Turn off" option (tab that option if it's blue (meaning it's working).

Thanks and luck! :)

Hi, Diane. I don't use Safari, but if it has the toolbar like Firefox and Chrome, you can click on it and move the slider to off for Safe Web.

This link shows how to enable the toolbar, so you can disable Safe Search as well.
