why is it that my kids can always log right back in after being logged out due to reaching the daily limit or evenign curfew? Ok, they can log in and get logged out again 60s later, but they can keep on logging in as many times they want, hence keep on using the computer after the set times.
I'm having the same problem. After my child runs out of time for the day, it kicks him off....but all he has to do is log back in and the popup screen will come up and tell him he is out of time and kick him off after about 60seconds. I discovered that my child has been exploiting the 60second coundown. He will just login, go chat or play on FB or Myspace, and after 60seconds, he will get kicked off. And he does it all over again. One night he continued this for over 5 hours. The software seems to be working fine. There needs to be a way to either shorten the login time from 60 seconds to something like 5seconds, or completly restrict login access. Im not sure what to do.
Settings:
Enable time blocking - selected (on)
Time supervision - on
Count total time he is logged into the comptuer - selected (on)
Automatically lock computer after time has been reached - selected (on)
The program locks out the child after giving 60 second countdown when it's curfew time and allows the child come back to use the PC for another 60 seconds. These actions can be repeated for three times only.
Could you give us some details on what the child do after he/she was locked out and come back for three times. Did he or she have to go through any extra steps to be able to stay on the PC?
Yesterday I experienced a similar issue. I have our son blocked from 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM, yet last night he was able to use the computer and surf the web from 12:01 AM to 12:51 AM. I have double checked the settings and Time Supervision is on, those hours are marked as blocked and automatically lock the computer is selected.. How was he able to do this? I asked him and he gave me the typical teenage answer of "I don't know". We are running Norton Online Family on a brand new Windows 7 PC.

Please make sure you give non-administrative rights (limited or restricted) to your son's user account and keep the password for the Norton Online Family account away from him. Otherwise, the child would have the ability to tamper the program.
Yes, this is what seems to happen to me as well, They seem to be able to explout the 60s rule as many times as possible, so the 3 time limit does not work.
Here is an extract from the log this morning:

Thanks for the logs. They only show the child was signing in between 6:17 AM - 6:25 AM within 8 minutes. Is it possible you could tell us what exact happened after signing in for three times.
Yes, the log goes on and on, but as far as I can tell, nothing in particula happens after the third time. It logs you out and you can log right back in. My kids are small so they don't do anything here to hack themselves in, they just try to log in and it works, so they continue.
If you could recreate the issue consistently (be able to log back into the PC after 3 warnings), I'd be very interested in setting up a remote access with you, so we can check into the issue. Please send me a private message and let us know when would be a good time for you. You could send the message by clicking on the icon in the upper righthandcorner of the page.
Our team is checking into the issue. Could you email me a screen shot of the Web Activity page where shows the Web activities after the 3 warning messages, e. g. the activities after 6:17AM.
Same problem here. Child can often find a way to extend past curfew, although they have to do this every so often as norton tries to log them out every 15 minutes or every hour. This is the latest version of norton, on a win98 computer. I am professional SW engineer, so familiar with computers like previous poster. On my windows7 computer, the Microsoft parental controls do a proper job of ensuring curfew. Norton appears to be easily circumvented
Do you know the exact steps the child takes to be able to stay on the PC after curfew time?
Also, please make sure you give non-administrative rights (limited or restricted) to the child's user account and keep the password for the Norton Online Family account away from the child. Otherwise, the child would have the ability to tamper the program.
I can assure you no-one is tampering with anything - in fact I can easily reproduce this myself. I just have to keep on loggin in. I can do it unlimited times so the three time limit you talk about just does not work. Clearly it is a hassle to login in every minute, but kids don't care. They just do it. This is even easier as they have no password on their Windows accounts so login in only requires pressing enter and you are back in the browser exactly where you where when you were logged out by the system.
I haver exactly the same problem, on 2 different laptops, my son's & my daughters. Neither has access to Norton yet both can log in again as many times as they like - it is usually to keep on facebook or twitter. On Saturday my daughter logged in over 20 times after her time limit had passed. Time limiting is on, my notiofications screen is full of time blocked messages.
Thanks for the update. I would be glad to setup a remote access session with you to get some logs that could help our development and QA team to investigate the issue. Please send me a private message and let me know when would be a good time for you. I'm in Los Angeles with Pacific time.

Unfortunately, I have the same issue here. Exactly as described above, so I don't have to repeat it.
Windows 7 32bit.
I sit next to him and see him do it.... The program logs him out, and he just logs back in and gets the warning he will be logged out again... I can see in the the logs that he keeps it up for hours!
Maybe it would be better if the program does not only log him off, but just shut's down the PC completely.
Thanks for the update. I've set up a remote session with one of the users, but we were not able to reproduce the issue this time. If you're interested in having a remote session and showing us the issue, please send me a private message.
I’ve been having exactly the same issues for months and it’s now starting to annoy me to the level where I had to come here to see if anyone else has experienced the same. My daughter doesn’t have to do anything special to continue using the computer past the curfew time and daily time limits, she simply selects her user account from the user selection screen, and continues to use the computer for a further 60 seconds. She can continue this way beyond 3 times, up to hours at a time ! I’m sure the problem seems to be (as another user posted in another post), that NSM seems to execute a “switch user” command instead of a “log off” command when the daily time limit is reached. I found several posts on this forum relating to these topics and fast user switching, but no responses giving any ideas about what might be happening, or the status of Symantec investigations. To me this is a major flaw in this otherwise great piece of software, and if it isn’t fixed soon I will be ditching it for some software which does prevent usage after curfews and time limits
