Safety Minder Popup wont go away

Every time I boot up and go to the internet explorer, a popup says its norton safety minder and says it needs to restart.  It doesn't restart the machine but comes back the next time I boot. up

Hi Johnr13,

Welcome to Norton Community!

Please post a screenshot of the error message you get from Norton 360. You can refer to the forum tip by Yaso_Kuuhl in the following link:

I have been having the same problem. Norton Safety Minder title of box. "Norton Safety Minder has updates for this computer. A restart is needed to install updates. Click "Yes" to intall updates and restart this computer or "No" to update later. Do you want to restart now?" Then has a Yes and No button. X to close box is grey so you have to click yes or no to make box go away. I have clicked yes multiple times as well as no.

I also get this annoying pop up window. It started during the last week or so.

See attachment for a screenshot. It doesn't look legitimate as it isn't branded at all and colours look very basic. The underlying process is csrss.exe and has no description in the Windows Task Manager.

Running Norton Safety Minder v2.1.0.52 with N360 v5.1.0.29 on Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 x64.

Screenshot of the offending pop up now added (on my second attempt!):

Hello ArneT

We have to wait until the Mods approve your screen shot. Thanks.

Seems like the products updates are not being installed. You can uninstall and reinstall Safety Minder to solve this. To uninstall Safety Minder, go to Add or Remove programs, and then uninstall it. After you uninstall and restart the computer, you can redownload and reinstall the Norton product from the following link:

Thanks CyberLife.

Before I try uninstalling and reinstalling Safety Minder, will this remove any settings, rules etc that are in place?

The settings are saved in the server. So you do not need to save any settings. The settings will be restored when you reinstall.

Before you uninstall and reinstall, I suggest you to check the following thread:

CyberLife - thanks for your help - SUCCESS!

I the downloaded the latest Norton Safety MInder via the link in your last post (http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Online-Family/quot-Safety-Minder-has-updates-this-computer-A-restart-is-needed/m-p/507102/message-uid/507102/highlight/true#U507102 ), this has done the trick. I didn't need to uninstall NSM and I now am on a later version (2.2.0.28) and it did download all rules from the server as you said. No more popup that won't go away!:smileyvery-happy:

Thanks again!

Hi All,

We have released the latest Norton Safety Minder 2.2.028  via Automatic LiveUpdate, which should have corrected the issue.  You can find the version number by clicking the Norton Safety Minder icon in the system tray and selecting About Norton Safety Minder.

If you don’t’ have the latest version for some reason, you can download the latest version by clicking on the “Download Norton Safety Minder” link which locates in the lower right hand corner of the NOF main page https://onlinefamily.norton.com/familysafety/loginStart.fs.

Thanks,

Katie
