When I search for the term “Flashlight” on Yahoo, the Safeweb Site Ratings are all Gray Question Marks. Most other searches seem to work OK. What could cause this?
Hi car825,
An interesting find on your part. Have you observed this before for that search query?
It may just be a temporary server-side issue.

Last month I ran into a similar problem where a Yahoo search would only return the gray question marks, regardless of the search term. It fixed itself after a few days.
Can you search "Flashlight" on Yahoo and let me know if you get all gray question marks?
Hi, car825,
Are you referring to .com or .co.uk?

I have just Completed a Test, on .com and .co.uk, of the Issue you Reported, and can confirm that I do not get all the Grey Question Marks you Reported on all of the Web Searches.
What Version of Norton Product are you using? Thanks!

I have NIS09 16.5.0.135 and Vista SP2 32bit. I'm using Yahoo.com. The only search engine that works consistently with Safeweb for me is Ask.com. Yahoo and Google return the gray question marks from time to time. Today was the first time it was search-term specific.
Hi,
Thanks for your Reply.
What Web Browser and Version are you using?
Thanks!

I'm using IE8, fully patched. I tried the UK Yahoo site and Safeweb works when I search Flashlight. That's strange. What could be causing a problem that only affects the US site?
Did you try the U.S. Web Site after trying the U.K. one? If so, what were the results?
Thanks for your co-operation so far. :)

I tried the US site after the UK site and the US site still returned the gray question marks.
Now both Google and Yahoo return gray question marks on about 25% of my searches. Ask.com works 100% of the time.
How can I fix this?
Hi,
This may be a Server Issue, so, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Can you please confirm what your Norton Product Version is: Open your Norton Product > ? Help & Support > About.
Thanks!

Have you went to http://safeweb.norton.com/, typed in the Web Address of one of the Gray Question-Mark Web Sites to check what the Status is on the Norton Safe Web Web Site? If so, what was the Result?

I have NIS09 16.5.0.135, IE8, and Vista SP2 32bit.
When I go to the Safe Web site and enter one of the gray question mark addresses a normal Safe Web rating is returned. In fact, if I click on one of the gray question marks in the Yahoo search results it opens a Safe Web page with a normal rating (green check mark and all).
Thank-you for the information.

I would suggest doing this to make sure the Web Site is Safe to Visit until this Issue is sorted out. Thank-you for your co-operation.
Happy and Safe Surfing! ;)

Is this a known issue or am I the only one with the problem? Thanks for your help.

Hi, car825,
I should be now! ;)

You are not alone. I am able to reproduce the same results for "flashlight" with IE8 / NIS 2009 v 16.5.0.135.
Interesting though, using IE8 / NIS 2010 Beta v 17.0.0.105, there is no problem. The search displays with the normal Safe Web results.
I had flagged your original post to the attention of Symantec, so I'm sure they are aware of the situation.

It's been a week since my original post. I'm still getting the gray question marks when searching for "flashlight" and a number of other terms on Yahoo. Any idea when this will be fixed?
