You can safely ignore all of this. I've messed it all up and need to start afresh!
Hi,
So I have some planned upgrades to my PC underway, with the first step being to put in a Samsung 830 256GB SSD to replace a WD 320GB drive (which will then remain and supplement the storage). I've been trying to use Norton Ghost 15.0 R1 which was bundled with the SSD in order to clone my windows installation, (it's all pretty minimal, with as much stuff turned off as I can, and gaming as the focus) but this is giving me no end of annoyance. Coming from a long background in OSX, where I know exactly how to clone a drive, swap it out and get up and running again in next to no time, Windows 7 is a bit... alien.
I've been looking around on here, trying to find something easy to fix my issues, but nothing I've seen has worked. So I could use some help!
The main problem I have is that the SSD doesn't assume the mantle of being C:, so that when I take out the original HDD, the OS doesn't find files it's looking for, and I end up with the blank, pale blue screen with the Windows 7 build numbers in the bottom right and mouse cursor.
I've made sure to leave the SSD without a specific drive lettering, and tried the trick with using the Win7 install DVD to repair the disk twice, but this hasn't worked.
Nothing else that I've tried has worked. So, I'm trying to go back to stage one, and if anyone has some help or suggestions I'd be glad to try them before I give up and start the oh-so-wonderful process of recreating my Win7 install from scratch.
Thanks.
