Hi,
it's there: right click -> Norton 360 -> Insight Network Scan. It was renamed becase it uses now other features during the scan as well.
No, it's not there. I see
Norton 360 Premier Edition with 2 choices - Add to Backup and Exclude From Backup. Both are disabled (grayed out). (running Vista).
Do you get the option when you right click on an executable file?
Right clicking on a folder or drive should give you the old "Scan now" option.
Dave
Thanks for the response, Dave.
In addition to the two disabled items that I mentioned earlier, I now see Insight Network Scan and Norton File Insight. These options were definitely not there before. Norton File Insight returns information about the file (how many users, whether it is trusted, etc.) while Insight Network Scan scans numerous items even though I am only selecting a single executable file. I am assuming that this is because there are many items contained in the executable (it is an installer for video drivers).
If I right-click a folder, I do get a Scan Now option. I would like to think that right-clicking an executable of any kind would result in a Scan Now option because that is what would be intuitive.
One more thing. I believe that I ran an update after my initial post.
Mark
Strange how it wasn't there before.
To me, "Insight Network Scan" seems like it is the exact same as a "Scan Now". It brings up the same scanning box and it clearly says "Virus and Spywhere Scan".
I don't know why it was renamed, I can't see anything that has to do with a Network, or Insight, looks like a regular old scan to me. But that seems consistant with the other products. I don't have my NIS system on right now but I have one with NAV and it has the same choices.
I also notice that the right click menu is different for some file types, things like txt files don't give you "file insight" because other users wouldn't have the same text file to compare it with or those types of files don't contain threats in the first place.
But I think the "Insight Network Scan" really is the same as "scan now", maybe if it detects something is when you see whatever change was made or the added features.
Dave
"Scan Now" refers to a traditional scan using definitions stored on the computer. When you right-click a folder containing multiple files you get this option. Insight Network Scan is a newer feature that combines two scans simultaneously, using both locally stored definitions as well as the latest definitions stored in the cloud (the Insight Network). This option is only available for individual files, which is why you don't see this with folders.
