Scan not working?

Hello, I was recently going to do a Quick Scan on my computer. I clicked the quick scan option and nothing happened, the "Select Scan" windows just closed. Soon after that, I tried full and power saver but the exact same thing happened, the window just closed. Please help! - James

Hi James76931

Have you noticed any thing strange happening on the computer and/or is it running slowly?

What is full and power saver?

Try restarting the computer?

Try running autofix by clicking the Norton icon, click support, click get support (or right click the Norton icon in the task bar and click Get support) let it run then restart the computer.  It should tell you if any items where fixed.

Check for Norton updates manually or right click the Norton icon in the task bar and click, run live updates, and then recheck until there are no more updates restarting the computer as requested.

Conflict in security software can be the cause of various issues even if the security software has been uninstalled the debris left on the system may not have caused problems until a Norton update has been installed.

Have you or have you ever had any other security software including any trial security software on the computer including Norton?  If so, what is it?

Can you check in windows add/remove programmes, programme data and programme files for any security software that may have been bundled in a download?

What trial security software came with the computer?

1. I meant full scan and norton power eraser.

2. Done, nothing changed.

3. It said no issues found.

4. Done, nothing changed.

5. I had no trial software, and I don't understand how to find those things because I am using windows 8.

My operating system is Windows 8.

Have you updated to Windows 8.1?  What version of Norton is on your system?  I don't recommend the use of NPE.  It is not a safe extra scan tool like Malwarebytes free version.

Hi James76931

Try a Norton full scan in safe mode (see help and support from the start menu).

If you use Safe mode with networking it allows an internet connection so physically disconnect the internet, disable the wifi before booting into safe mode with networking as Norton appears to be disabled in safe mode only allowing a full scan.  Then restart the computer.

Then try a Norton full scan in normal mode?

Can you repost with the result?

intesec, before you suggest using safe mode to users, this information might be handy.

Hi F4E

Thanks for the link, I have seen that or something like it before, what are you trying to point out?

Just highlighting the difference between safe mode on its own, and with networking, for forum users. The post explains the difference.

In most cases, safe mode alone is sufficient for troubleshooting Norton problems.
