Scan problem

my norton security app repeatedly scans file, apps and folders after i updated to a version of v3.5.0.1023.
it does not end unless i manualy cancel it.
the previous version also could not update the definitions since 16th june. its disturbing. awairing your responce.

I purchased a new Dell which had a trail version of McAfee.  I removed the software before installing Norton Security Suite on 03/08/13.  I've gone to the Norton Support site several times and no problems have been detected.  I'm referring to both automatic and manual scan.  I first detected the problem two days ago when I saw that Norton had a problem.  I then tried a manual scan and it didn't work.

Thanks....

I have Comcast's Norton Security Suite version 20.2.0.19 on a notebook using Windows 8 and the scan has stop working.  It will not do a quickscan or full scan.  Is there a fix for this?

How did you remove the McAfee? Did you use the McAfee removal tool, or just uninstalled it via Control Panel?

Please try to select Support on the main page of NSS and then Get Support, let it update and scan. Does it report any problems/fix anything?

I'm not completely sure that the computer came with a trail version of McAfee but if it did, I would have uninstalled it from the Control Panel.  I just tried to find a McAfee Removal Tool for Windows 8 but haven't been able to find it.  I ran the Get Support scan again and no errors were found.

No, the Get Support scan doesn't fix the problem.

I found the McAfee Removal Tool for Windows 8 at www.download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe and ran it.  Upon restarting the notebook, I opened Norton and chose Fix Now and the Quick Scan ran.  I'm not sure the problem is completely fixed so I'm going to leave this open until I test it further.  In either case, I appreciate your help and suggestions and, will close this as soon as I'm sure it's resolved.

Thanks for the feedback - hope everything works out for you.

The Quickscan worked; however, the Complete Scan didn't complete.  I wondering is it because I chose not to do backups?

It is not being caused because you have chosen not to do backups - I have backups disabled on my NSS.

BTW, you mentioned Notebook - do you have it plugges into the electrical mains?  I do not believe a full scan will run on battery power.

Yes, it plugged up.
