It is not recommended to use the system tools like disk defragmenter, disk cleanup along with Norton Scan. It is always better to run the scans from Norton and Windows Defender independently one after another. Running system tools along with Norton Scan may be time consuming and also may cause conflicts with each other. You can do normal operations like internet browsing, playing games and use other programs like Microsoft Word, Outlook etc without any problem. You may also configure the scan to run during Idle Time or schedule scan on weekly/monthly basis, so that your day to day operations may not get affected at all.

Before updating to Norton 5.0 I was able to scan indivdual drives and individual folders. I run Norton on both my notebook and laptop. I have no problem on my notebook - but on highlighting scan on Norton 360 my system freezes until the error message
"the scan cannot run because Norton 360 has encountered an internal program error." How sure can I be that my laptop is protected?

Every time I have a scan and it removes my traking cookies I have to reset my web passwords

Just run the scan. It should not take more than a minute or two if you are not using the computer at the same time.
