I don't need a solution because the programmers will have to figure this out. I have been scanning my old 3 1/2" disks. The scans have found several very old viruses. On some disks the scan simply stops. The light goes out on the floppy drive, a USB. The scanning window sits there like is it working. I try to STOP it, it won't. I have to use the Task Manager to kill it. Then my computer won't shut down. I have to hard power it or reset it. It turns out that the disks on which this happen have bad sectors. The program freezes up when those sectors are hit.
