Everytime when I run the full system scan, the scanning program terminated at the virus ans spyware scanning step after a few minutes of the scanning. An error message pops up saying error found and the program has to be terminated. I doubted whether the installation process had not been done properly? I uninstall the previous anti-virus software after I installed the Norton 360 version 5.0. Should I reinstall Norton 360 again? If it is the case, will the number of user be counted again although the reinstallation is to be done on the same computer? Please advise.
Hi ycm and welcome to the forums,
If I am reading your post correctly, you uninstalled your previous anti-virus AFTER installing Norton. That is backwards. You should have removed the previous AV prior to installing Norton. It is very possible you have a conflict/corrupt install.
What AV did you have installed before? I ask as some AV's have removal tools thatneed to be run to insure all of the old AV program is removed. If you post back with that info, someone will be glad to help you find a removal tool for your old AV (if one exsists) and walk you thru the procedure of running the tool, uninstalling and reinstalling of Norton.
If you uninstall and reinstall ion the same computer - it still only counts as 1 user.
Hi Ycm,
Go to Tasks > Check Security History, and check if it lists any error for the scan you have performed. Please get the error number, module from the details and let us know.
In meantime, try restarting the computer in Safe Mode, and then run a full system scan by double-clicking the Norton icon. Even if you need to uninstall and reinstall, you dont have to worry about the licnese since you will be reinstalling the Norton product on the same computer.

Also you can run a scan using Norton Power Eraser. That will make sure that your computer is not infected. You can find the steps in the following Support Article:
Thanks you all,
The previous AV is AVG. I removed it from the Add/Remove Program in Control Panel. The computer in problem is running window XP.
I have also checked the security history. No record of the scanning can be found in the history. I think it is because of the incompleted scanning.
Although the full system scan could not be performed, the quick scan could be run without error.
Further advise please and thanks again.
AVG does have a removal Tool Available here: http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities.
I would try to run that and then uninstall/reinstall Norton.
You still have not told us if you installed Norton prior to removing AVG. If you did, that is probably what is casuing your problem. I see this all the time on the Comcast forum with folks switchingover to Norton from a prior AV.
BTW - do you have any other security programs installed that runin real-time?
Also FWIW - I do not recommend running Norton Power Eraser as the first step in trying to detect malware on your system. There are much safer (user friendly) options, such as any of the on-line virus scanners and also MalwareBytesAnti-Malware (free edition).
If do deicde to use Norton Power Eraser, be sure to read the info in the link provided - about doing damage to your system
Simple uninstallation and reinstallation of Norton could not resolve the issue. Eventually, Norton removal tool was used to completely remove the corrupted program and reintall the software. The full system scan works now. Thanks to everyone who had recommended solutions to me.
