Scheduled Scans not running automatically

I am using NIS09, have Windows XP.  Two days ago I noticed that the scheduled full system scan was not running as scheduled.  I tried rebooting, which did not resolve the issue. Up until two days ago, the scans ran every single day, as they are set up to do.  This was very sudden. I can run full scans manually, and that seems to be working fine, but they are not running on their own.

Of note is that I have a second computer, also NIS09 and Windows XP, which had the same exact issue (I will call this the "small" computer).  I allowed Symantec personnel remote control of that computer and they uninstalled and then reinstalled the program, so it is now functioning fine.  Immediately after they did that, though, I started getting pop ups (or redirects, I'm not sure which), and a high risk issue was caught as a result of a scan.  Because of this, I immediately downloaded Spybot S&D, which caught some issues.  Everything with the "small" computer is fine now.  I find it odd, however, that I would have the same exact issue concerning the scans on the "big" computer, which is a completely separate unit, within the same week.

Because of my experience with the "small" computer, as soon as the Norton scans failed to initiate as scheduled on the "big" computer, I downloaded Spybot S&D to that, too, which has cleared up some things, but that may just be a coincidence.  I receive no pop ups nor directs, and the scans are showing nothing more than tracking cookies, which are automatically resolved.

Because of the NIS scans I've run, as well as the Spybot S&D scans, and the fact that I do not seem to have any functional issues, I don't think I have an infection on either computer, but the failure of the scans to initiate as scheduled is troublesome.

Does anyone know if this has been an issue, or do I need to take any other action.  Short of uninstalling and reinstalling NIS09 on the "big" computer, is there any way to resolve the scheduled scan issue?

I would appreicate some advice.

Hello LKBeagleluvr,

You probably received the update to 16.7.2.11. You can confirm this in the main Norton interface, Help & Support > About.

If this is the case then your previously scheduled scan is pointing to the older engine which no longer exists.

Best suggestion is to delete your current scheduled scans and recreate them.

Yes, that's what is advised in the thread I indicated above ;-) You will also find instructions on how how to recreate the scan schedule in said thread :-) I am summarising them for you over here:

You have to check the Windows Task Scheduler; you will probably find a duplicate schedule; you should have the option to delete the schedule you don't want; delete it from the Windows schedule.

My apologies, Yaso.

I did not see you posting and I was trying to provide LKBeagleluvr with an answer to the question and a possible solution within the same thread.

Thank you both, so much.  I will follow your suggestions and see what happens.

Thanks again!

Lol, no problem, Phil_D ;-))))) Our posts were simultaneous. I hope I didn't get in your way ;-))

Before I forget: in order to locate and handle Windows Task Scheduler in Windows XP, you can read this Microsoft article:

http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B308569&x=9&y=10

I'm copying out a section of the article above so that you know how to find the scheduler:

To open Scheduled Tasks, click Start, click All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Scheduled Tasks.

That was so simple and solved the problem immediately!   I scheduled the scan to start with a 2 minute delay from when I completed the fix, and the scan started right up.

Thank you both so much!  I was getting knots in my stomach for nothing, thinking I had a big problem.

Yays! So glad it worked for you ;-))) Thanks for posting back with the result. Have a great day!
