Was there any damage to your home? Or just items fell off shelves, etc?
The Full Tower went over on it's side, which unseated the Graphics card and RAM Sticks, so pulled the Anti static gear out and reseated the components.
Smaller stuff went walk about, but my place won't budge with reinforced walls and floor. Like Quads, as hard as Nails.
Still no watter etc though, may take weeks to get that.
Altered a downpipe from the roof so I could collect rain water, bucket by bucket.
Not much sleep with the aftershocks though, Now at 5045 added so far.

China has also sent crews over. So Groups from all over NZ, Aussie, USA, UK, Japan, Taiwan and Singapore

On a street called Coronation Street
Now here is a map of the epicenters for the 7.1 Mainshock and the aftershocks in the area, from the 4th Sep 2010 up to 22nd Feb 2011.
People may have to copy the image and use a image program to zoom in to see the red arrows I have added.
For some time in circles that you can see at least by the epicenter dots 2 definite lines of aftershocks.
a) Through the city north east to Parklands / North New Brighton
b) From Halswall East along the hills through Cashmere to Sumner and Taylors Mistake
The aftershock of 6.3 happened on line b. Creating a 17km rupture along it on the surface and a 1.8 to 2.2 G force hit for a 6.3 magnitude.
Here is a Pic of the known Greendale fault that appeared on the 4th of Sep 2010in red, the yellow lines are under investigation, including for the exact path.
The epicenters for shakes below 3 in magnitude have been removed to make the diagram map clearer to see, although aftershocks as small as 2.2 have been felt due to the shallow nature of them, some as shallow as 200 meters.
Here is a map showing the epicenters from Sep 4th right up until midday today (NZDT) Find Christchurch now.
Shakes so far 5136

Well I don't want to go into conspiracy theory area but one does wonder about floods, storms, etc happening when you read about HAARP.
Scientists and Military playing God with the weather?
And the use of it as a weapon of mass destruction? .... http://www.haarp.net/
An earthquake is small however compared to the destruction of monster tsunamis, hurricanes and floods which are getting worse particularly for those smaller poorer islanders around the globe. I believe Scotland is putting in place flood precautions which I find as a Scot positive.
It makes me furious that so much energy and funds go into weapons and war, rather than constructive solutions.

Try again,
Though compared to the Boxing day 2004 Indian Earthquake, Haiti's Earthquake and Chiles 8.8 shake your right. The amount of land, buildings and infrastructure that has been broken and destroyed from this is high, even compared to the Australian Floods due to the likes of say in Bribane even though there was alot of flood water buildings were still standing, just wet, and needing cleaning out etc. though still costing money.
The amount of land and building damage here is now high,
The Electricity companies are working together to build a 3km overhead power cable for part of the city as the damage under ground is too great to fix reasonably fast.
A lot of the inner city is going to have to be demolished including one of the tallest buildings. Inspectors are going house to house at some stage to see which properties are beyond repair even if still standing in some way.
Haiti had the problem of building quality that didn't help them.
"Scientists and Military playing God with the weather?" I don't agree with that.

I imagine there will be some investigations on structural damage and responsibility, like the building where I watched the crane rescue on live video streaming. Apparently the building was largely intact but the internal stairways all collapsed so people were trapped..

At least 24 + hours old.
" The Canterbury Plains now has two threads of aftershocks rumbling beneath it. In 12 months, residents will still experience at least one magnitude-four quake a month. GNS models predict that in the next week Christchurch should expect between one and 10 aftershocks greater than magnitude four and within three weeks the number should drop to one magnitude four every three to four days.
The chance of another large aftershock decreases by the day, but seismologists cannot rule out another magnitude-five or six tremor, especially given that the Lyttelton quake was itself believed to be an aftershock.
BUGGER
That they think happened to cause so much force for a 6.3 m, The reflecting off the hard volcanic rock

Quads,
It really is horrifying to have such a long life cycle .....
BTW
Unfortunately the forum system here does not pass on Subject changes to all the previous messages posted but if you care to change the Subject from Scotland .... next time you post -- that way it's up to you <s> -- it will be inherited by those whose posts later are replies .....
Christchurch's Port Hills are nearly half a metre taller in places as a result of the colossal forces unleashed by last week's earthquake. Lyttelton was now several centimetres closer to Christchurch.
The fault (Fault B in a post earlier above with pics) was angled so that most of it lay beneath the Port Hills.
The faults associated with the September 4 and February 22 quakes were separated by what may be at least two more hidden faults underneath Christchurch.
Aftershock patterns suggested at least two north-east-south-west trending faults lay between the east-west Greendale Fault exposed at the surface in September last year and the fault under the Port Hills.
One of these looks like Fault A, patten seen in the pics in a post earlier in which I red arrowed out to Parklands / North New Brighton.
I had noticed the line on a Radar image quite some weeks ago from a Japanese agency and I dotted whie lined suspected fault paths myself. I placed the dotted white lines into the Radar image on the 4th of Jan and saved it.
The other not sure yet Quads is studying hard the data, It could be the line that goes North to the East of the Airport and then North East to the river north of the city.
The amount of data to look at and analyse is big, let alone when an error occurs

It makes to real and closer to be getting the details from you Quads ..... Glad you are able to do it.
Are you on laptop (if so how do you recharge) or have they restored power for you?
I am in one of the areas that got power back in half a day, but the water is still at times on and off with stuff all water pressure really.
You are not allowed to drink it without treatment, No hot water either.
Got one of the aftershocks last night at 4.6m only 5km deep. rattle rattle.

Having both of those must make a difference even if you have to get bottled water or filter/boil for drinking.
Hi Quads,
You seem to be well versed in seismology. Any formal studies in the earth sciences? I took quite a few courses in college and have always been interested in geology as a hobby. I am finding your reports quite interesting. Your quake seems very similar to the Northridge quake here in 1994. While everyone was worried about the "Big One" happening on the San Andreas fault, a buried, previously unknown, thrust fault caused a lot of damage with a 6.7 magnitude quake. It got everyone thinking very seriously about blind thrust faults, one of which lies under metropolitan Los Angeles. Oh, the joys of living on a plate boundary!
Studied Earth sciences in with the other sciences at school until the end of school, seeing as NZ is an earthquake country it was complusory to study earthquakes, plate tectonics etc. (mind you there are kids who decide to have it go in one ear and out the other).
After school I went more into electrics, electronics, Computers and Basic Astrophysics (that pushes the brain).
I am a nerd as someone put it It's not that hard to use the physics branch etc., Just don't ask me to cook, it comes out black.
Here is the NZ map showing the MMI scale of 8 and how a lot of the instruments detected in NZ. (thanks to GNS)
The 6.3 shake was also detected in London (UK) on instruments

What is so fascinating about New Zealand is that the ocean floor subducts under the north island on the right hand side of Quads' image, but the south island is climbing over top of the Australian plate on the opposite side. Add to that a general slide to the south by half of the south island. It keeps me awake nights trying to imagine the movement of the plates.
I'm wondering if Quads will open his house to all of us if we'd like to take a Lord of the Rings tour of New Zealand. Except now may not be the best time for a friendly visit.
Yeah Liquification ring and dust from that for miles on end.
Here are the drums below for Canterbury, North to South, the meters are spaced far enough apart over the region, for the ones selected.
There are a LOT more meters around Canterbury, and more has been added over the last week as part of the CanNet network, this is only 6 drums.
The drums should update every 10 mins or so by refreshing. (F5 key)

Thanks to GNS
