Screen starts flahsing when I run Live Update

I have installed Norton 360 on 15.08.2020. It was working good until I connected extended display & things started crashing for some unknown reasons.

every time I have clicked on "run live update", both screens starts flashing & after few seconds entire laptop stops responding. then I have to switch off laptop manually by removing battery & power plug. This had continued for almost 10 times & at 11th boot, following message appear on screenSo I uninstalled norton with norton removal tool & after restart, deleted all the files associated with norton.

upon next try to install norton, I received memory error message

so I initiated HP memory & hdd diagnostics. Diagnostics results displayed laptop & the parts are free from any defects.

during these problems I have asked for chat support & both the executives were very poor in handling customer support,

so what is the solution?

laptop came preinstalled with Windows Vista, which I recently upgraded to 10 after consulting with Microsoft.

What is the Norton 360's minimum hardware requirement ?

Note, the Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family was discontinued 27 May 2016 and no longer supported by Intel. Last OS listed was for Windows XP x64.

How old is this laptop?

Did you just recently install windows 10 on this laptop from an older OS?

Note, there have been reported issues related to these drivers after installing windows 10. Ref link

noneNorton is installed after installing drivers & Windows update.

Norton stopped working when I connected additional (extended) Display.

before that norton was working fine.

Have you recently updated or have you checked to see if there are any new updated video/graphics divers for your system either through HP or the OEM?

after scan & fix I have restarted PC & tested whether norton loads or not.

& norton crashed again when I clicked on 'Open My Norton'

by the way don't worry about 'SFC scan' because yesterday evening I reinstalled Windows 10 version 2004, but as soon as after Norton installs, then I restart & then Norton fails to loads :(

whats next ?

Your SFC scan notes it found corrupt files and fixed them. Have you restarted your system again and tested after this fix?

yes it was working perfectly prior to Norton 360.

On 15.08.2020 I have reinstalled Windows 10 on SSD. earlier it was HDD without norton.

How are you connecting the extended display? Was it working before installing Norton 360?

What security software were you using before installing 360? If it was not a Norton product, did you fully remove that software using that software's removal utility?

Hi Saurabh1123,

What is your current version and build number of windows 10?

Have you recently updated or checked to see if there are any new updated video/graphics divers for your system?

You could also try running Microsoft System File Checker (SFC) tool to check and repair missing or corrupted system files.  Please see MS Support Article Here

Please Note, you should first run the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool for windows 10 systems as reference in this article.

To do this, click Start, type Command Prompt or cmd in the Search box, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.  Next, type the following command, and then press Enter.  It may take several minutes for the command operation to be completed.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

After DISM completes, type the following command, and then press Enter.

sfc /scannow

Note Do not close this Command Prompt window until the verification is 100% complete. The scan results will be shown after this process is finished. Ensure you make note of messages displayed.

all the steps mentioned above are performed with 'disabled' Windows Fast Start-up and reboot.

yet every-time I plug in extended screen, Norton crashes, WHY?

Hi Saurabh1123,

If you haven't already done so, please disable Windows Fast Start-up and reboot. See how to here

Next, using the NRnR tool, Click Advanced Options and Select Remove Only, then click remove.

Ensure system reboot after removal.

Log into your My Norton Account and download your product and reinstall.  After installation, manually run live update a couple of times until no more are available.  Reboot and run live updates yet again until no more are available and reboot once more.

Please let us know if this resolved the problem.
