I always used Internet Explorer as search engine, and I recently deleted all history going back years. Today I went to Google Chrome and it shows 5,115 sites in the history section including all the sites that I accessed today in Explorer. Is this normal? I am asking because I have problems accessing some websites. That is an issue that I am addressing separately.
@anaglezc The default search engine for the last version of IE was Microsoft Bing. Depending on what search engine and browser being used now that history may have transferred over to Chrome when you installed it and did its setup. Chrome doesn’t automatically import history and other bookmarks from IE, that has to be done manually. Those older history entries are probably outdated and should be renewed. If you are presently using a VPN that can cause sites not to load as well.
Note: If you are still using IE it is recommended that you don’t due to exploits
-Are you using a VPN when surfing?
-What is your OS presently used?
-What is the default search engine being used in Chrome?
I installed Chrome last month and it appears as you indicate that the history, cookies etc. moved from IE. I also tried to import bookmarks, but it did not work properly; therefore, I will be adding them manually. I am not currently using VPN since I get the loading error anyway. The default search engine for Chrome is Bing, which is the one showing thousands of sites in history. I am using Windows 11 Version 24H2. Not sure of that is what you are asking for.
I sincerely appreciate your help. I will try to move from IE to Bing with Chrome as suggested. Hope I don’t crash this when I clear all that history.
Thanks for the post back. Here is some help with Chrome and getting things straight:
You may also want to consider using the built-in Edge browser vice Chrome. I’ve found Chrome to be a bit missive with all the constant changes on a really frequent basis, that really don’t make a big difference to most users.
Thank you! May I ask you one more question if you do not mind rather than creating a new thread? Many times, I try to access a feature, and I get a comment that it is managed by my administrator. Would that be Norton?
Thank you,
AGC
If you are referring to Norton asking for admin credentials make sure you are using an account that has admin privileges in Windows. If this is Windows, likewise. You may want to review this article as a possible solution. There are times when a Windows Update will change “group policy” for User Account Control". The below article will help.
