I amnot sure how to explain this but I have the latest Norton Internet Security suite (21.1.0.18) which I use on Windows 8.1 with IE 11.
I have the Norton Tool bar with search engine window.
Whenever I use the search engine field in the Norton Toolbar, I only get to type a few letters in and then the page becomes "non-live". What I mean by that is that as I type this thing happens and no further keystrokes are entered into the seach field unless I click on that page again. It's as if it is switching the inout to another window.
It's vary annoying.
Why is this happening? Can I get rid of the search engines field in the Norton tool bar without removing the Identity Safe features (Vault etc).

As you can see from the image below, I can also reproduce the situation. If you look closely, the focus leaves the block where you are typing and you can not type any additional letters without using the mouse and left clicking after the letter n in the safe search box which returns the cursor (focus) to the block.
It appears to work as desired in Google - the focus (curosor) remains in the block you are typing in.
Also Comcast NSS in it's current v 21.1.0.18 does not display the Norton Safe Search, nor is the option available in the options on the General Settings page. This is being discussed in the following thread:
Weird. OK, I stand corrected--and my apologies for missing this; I mainly work the Norton 360 and Norton Mobile Products boards, as those are the products I have on my own systems and can test. So we now have a validated issue being experienced by at least three users (counting yank). And it sounds like this thread should be moved to the NIS board--although I'll wait for the original poster to confirm this before asking for that.
I will otherwise likely surrender this thread, as I cannot reproduce the issue on Norton 360--which, of course, could itself be a clue: if anyone is experiencing this on a Norton 360 installation, please let us know by posting; otherwise, it may be unique to the toolbar code for NIS, which could help pin it down....
Not sure how this thread ended up in the Norton 360 board as I am certain I put it into the NIS board where it belongs, and I do say in my thread I am using NIS.
Yes, that other thread I was linked to is the exact same proplem. I begin to type in the search field and it automatically gives me suggestiosn and does not allow me to continue typing unless I click on the field again.
It's vary anoying and needs to be addressed. Whjy can't I simply continue typing?
No problem @DistEd2 but you can provide some assistance to this mystery (in regards to differences between NSS/NIS and N 360 in this area)
Could you please have a look at the two images in this post and let us know what options you have available - one or two and which one(s), or if in fact you have all three as I do in NIS?
Sure thing, yank. I'll check and post back as soon as I can get on the PC with 360 on it.
However, this is in any event a very interesting post bearing directly on this thread. Since I think we can rule malware out as the cause, given that others including you are experiencing this symptom, it seems to me that the original poster can safely turn off the SafeSearch box in NIS, as they originally wanted to do. So if that's really OK with Myrm as a Solution, you may have solved this thread!

My bad - I was concentrating on the drop down and losing focus as I have seen in another thread and totally misssed that myrm hd asked such a question.
DistEd2 - thanks for slowing me down and reminding me to read the post!
Yes, the Norton Safe Search Box can be removed from the Norton Toolbar without imacting the Identity Safe features. I have tested it and what I had to do was unkark the option for Norton Safe Search in Options, close my browser down and then reopen my browser. ber in mind I am using IE 1 on a Win 7 system - but hopefully it is the same on Win 8.1 and IE 11.
<edit> Decided to add an image: I also have my Safe Search turned off and combined the NTB and the IE Menu Bar on the same line in order to save space.
The normal way to obtain the Norton safe search bar is to Log into your vault, Click on Vault is Open on the Norton Toolbar >Select the Keyhole Icon > then when the All log-in screen comes up, Select the Gear Icon > and you see the General Settings Page
Now do all of the above , except remove the checkmarked selection for Norton Safe search
Oh, one more thing ... How do I get an IE search box in my IE 11 tool bar?
Myrm,
If you're asking what you do to have a toolbar-based search now that you've had to disable SafeSearch from your Norton toolbar because of the problem you reported, you already have one: in IE 11, just type your search terms into the browser address bar where you would ordinarily put a URL...and Microsoft in its infinite generosity ;-) will start offering you Bing results....
