SEC_ERROR_BAD_SIGNATURE on SSL websites

I have a Windows 8 computer my daughter uses with Symantec Endpoint Protection on it and Norton Family. Under her profile which is NF protected I can not access any SSL website. It gives the error SEC_ERROR_BAD_SIGNATURE. Under my profile as a parent profile (unmonitored), it work fine. This happens using any browser, IE, FF, Chrome...

How do I fix it?

Ok, so after uninstalling NF, Micorsoft Family was running and I could not turn it off, and since it is built into 8.1 I could not uninstall it either... Sooooo, reset windows to factory install and all is well again. Thanks.

Hi sratson,

Please try the below steps and let us know what you see and if they help.  If not, we will try further later after you try the steps below.

  1. If you are able to access SSL websites before installing Norton Family?
  2. Turn Off Norton Family and disable Norton Family browser extensions? Try accessing the SSL websites.
  3. Disable Symantec Endpoint Protection, Turn Off Norton Family, disable Norton Family extensions, check whether the SSL websites are accessible.
  4. Disable Symantec Endpoint Protection, Turn On Norton Family, enable Norton Family extensions, check whether the SSL websites are accessible.
  5. If you are using older version of browsers? If yes, please upgrade to the latest browsers and check.
  6. Apart from Norton Family what other browser extensions are enabled in the machine?

Thanks

Katie
