I am located in the UK. I use windows on a home wifi network. I use Outlook to connect to my Email server (pop3.virginmedia.com) with Secure VPN turned on. About a fortnight ago it stopped working but it works if I turned the VPN off. At the beginning of last week it started working OK again. At some point last week it stopped working again. The VPN has been connected to the UK region all the time.
I tried raising this with Norton technical support (Case 84060732) they were unable to suggest anything except reloading the Norton software. As I suggested this is unlikely to be the case as there are 2 windows laptops in the house that have the same problem. Using a windows Cmd window, whe the VPN is off I can ping the server and it resolves it to 84.116.6.19, when the VPN (Region UK) is on the ping request times out seeming to resolve the the IP address to 10.100.10.100, suggesting to me that it is unable to lookup the Servername.
Intrestingly if I turn on the VPN for region France or Ireland I can ping the pop3.virginmedia.com server successfully, and download and send my emails successfully from Outlook. I see Norton does have a facility to exclude emails from the norton Secure VPN. As I can ping the Outlook server using it's IP address when the VPN is on(Region UK) - does anyone know if you can setup Outlook to use the IP address rather than the server name pop3.virginmedia.com.
Or if anyone can suggest how to reolve the underlying problem - help greatly appreciated.
