Security Center in Vista reporting reports that Firewall/Malware Protection is off (NIS 2009)

I’ve tried the trick with the services (WMI), restarted and did live update, but to no avail. :-(((

After starting my pc today I even got these weird messages:

- You turned off your firewall, you computer may be...

- You turned off your anti virus,...

Although the statusses are all ok, and all apps are running. :-/

I hope they will fix this soon.

Sometimes, unregistering and re-registering WMIUTILS.DLL file will fix this issue.

1. Click the Start button, and then click All Programs > Accessories > Run.

2. In the Run dialog box, type the following text:

regsvr32 /u WMIUTILS.DLL

3. Click OK.

4. Restart the computer.

5. Click the Start button, and then click All Programs > Accessories > Run.

6. In the Run dialog box, type the following text:

regsvr32 WMIUTILS.DLL

7. Click OK.

8. Restart the computer.

Doesn't help either :-/

Did anyone who also had this problem get this resolved?

Cheers,

Nick

Hi Nick,

Some others who had the problem after getting Windows Updates got it resolved by upgrading to latest Norton 2009 version (They were having the Norton 2007/2008 version). Hope you have seen those posts already. If you want, you can also go ahead with uninstalling and reinstalling Norton 2009 program. As I told you earlier, it's a problem with Windows Security Center failing to recognize the status of Norton program due to some changes made by recent updates. But, your Norton program is running fine and don't have any issues. You can also ignore the alert from Windows Security Center as you can always check the status of the Norton program from the system tray icon. As long as the Norton icon shows GREEN tick(Secure), you don't have to worry about the protection of your computer. You can also try the following steps before going to uninstall/reinstall Norton 2009 program.

1. Click the Start button, right-click on My Computer, and then click Properties.

2. In the Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings area, click Change settings and then click Advanced tab.

3. Click Environment Variables.

4. In the System variables section, double-click on Path.

5. In the Edit System variables window, please enter the following and click OK.

%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;

6. Click Ok, and again click Ok.

7. Restart the computer.
