SecuROM, can norton be made to detect rootkits such as this?

Thank you for your reply but I must ask you to take a deeper look at secuROM. It at one point may not have been malicious in the past but with this latest version it has been known to take full control of peoples computers and because it is a root-kit considering that it installs itself to the Kernel of the Computer a.k.a Ring 0 hackers use it to completely bypass the antivirus system. If you don't consider it a virus or malicious then there needs to be stronger protection to prevent the viruses and spy wares from using it as a back door into peoples computers. Also if it is not malicious why do I need to jump through hoops to remove it when I no longer have the software that it was copy protecting in the computer? I don't want to be difficult but I am concerned I use this computer for everything and to know that people can just go through a free backdoor enter my computer without so much as an attempt by nortons to stop it, it deeply concerns me.

I removed it from my computer so that nortons isn't compromised but please understand I am deeply concerned I need full assurance that if SecuRom is in my computer Virus won't use it to bypass my security.

Thank you once again for your time

Btw no edit feature so I have to double post

"ATTENTION: VirusTotal is a free service offered by Hispasec Sistemas. There are no guarantees about the availability and continuity of this service. Although the detection rate afforded by the use of multiple antivirus engines is far superior to that offered by just one product, these results DO NOT guarantee the harmlessness of a file. Currently, there is not any solution that offers a 100% effectiveness rate for detecting viruses and malware"

While that link was helpful keep in mind that it states that it may not be harmless there was also one company that called it a rootkit honestly I see why you say its not malicious but how can we been 100% sure. I am sorry but I still believe that its malicious because 1 out of 36 found it to be a root kit what if those other site/programs aren't able to detect root kits. This is not an attack on Norton's or SecuROM, i've already done enough of that. I am just concerned, as I am sure people are when they think they get spyware but are unsure.

Hi soulprovider17

We consider this software to be non-malicious, as do many other anti-virus programs. We appreciate your interest in keeping other customers safe from malware; that too is our goal. We make great efforts to research all potentially malicious software. In this specific case, our evaluation concludes that this program is safe. If you feel that the program you are running might still be malware, I invite you to submit it to our team for review:

I am a gamer and I was surprised to learn that a virus slipped by my Norton's 2008 Antivirus which I try to update often but what really shocked me was that I had been installing it for years and didn't even know it. SecuRom is a rootkit that many game developers use to supposedly protect their games but the problem is that long after you uninstall the game it stays in your system. I was also grieved to learn that hackers and virus programmers could use this rootkit to bypass the antivirus or firewalls because Securom takes the firewall or antivirus offline since it installs itself on the Kernal of the computer. Once it realized what this was I made it a point to remove all videogames that had this software and went through the 30-45minute process of removing this Malware(Which was not as hard with a couple of micrsoft approved software downloads)

To site where I got this info from is here

Finally my question is simple can norton be made to detect this malware, Just the regular antivirus for 2009 or even 2010. Since at the moment this software can do nothing to stop malware its a waste of $40. I don't want hackers being able to exploit securom to bypass my security and I am sure you (systemantic sorry if I spelt that wrong)  don't want malware compromising your software that you work hard to provide for us the end users

Hi soulprovider17, the SecuRom software is non-malicious, and therefore not flagged by NAV or NIS.

E.g. Virustotal lists only 1 out of 37 vendors that qualify this file as being malicious.
