September Definitions not working in NAV 9 and OS X 10.3

I have an older Power Mac G4 Sawtooth running OS X 10.3.9 and NAV 9.0.4. It's an old computer running old software, so that is why OS X and NAV have not been updated. (Fyi, my aluminum iMac is running OS X 10.5.8 and NAV 11.x.) I have kept the virus subscription on the G4 current and it's been working fine until the September virus definitions were released.

When I installed the definitions manually, both the 9/6 and 9/11 definitions would create the "Norton AntiVirus AutoProtect could not continue. Please reinstall Norton AntiVirus and restart" error. Running Live Update, it offered a smaller 18 mb update; installing it did not fix the problem. Finally, I reloaded the August definitions, and that fixed the problem. Today, I downloaded and manually installed the 9/18 definitions. Though the 9/18 definitions did not trigger the error, it was not recognized by NAV; NAV says it is still using the August definitions.

I tried doing the update entirely through Live Update. First, a 70 mb update downloaded. Running Live Update again, it asked for a 18.4 mb download. After restarting the computer, NAV does not recognize the new definitions, and says it is still  using the August definitions. At this point, I'm stumped. Is there something about the September definitions that is pushing NAV 9 over the edge? Thanks in advance for your suggestions and feedback.
