Had a subscription problem where I had to verify my subscription every day when I turned the computer on. Read on this forum somewhere that upgrading to 15.5 from 15.06 solved this problem for another user, so I did so.
Now, the subscription problem seems to be solved but I get Error: "LU1814: LiveUpdate could not retrieve the update list" while running LiveUpdate for Norton 2008 product. The solution proposed for fixing this error error does not work. I keep getting a message to check my internet connection but all other software connects quickly. Even LiveUpdate seems to complete the first step of checking for available updates. It seems to fail when it attempts to download them. I don't have parental controls or any other firewall blocking other than NIS. I downloaded and reinstalled the latest version of LiveUpdate but that did not solve the problem?
Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi mel,
Thanks for the link to Symantec tools. Tried #18 (PIUpdate tool) and 14 (SymNCTS for NIS 2008) with no success. Have you or any others started over by using the Norton Removal tool and reinstalled the software? I still have the downloaded version NIS2008-15.5. I also have my subscription product key.

hi upguy - absolutely have used SymNRT in the past and when point fixes have failed, i generally find that it gets the job done. i'd recommend it for you at this point.

mel,
Install/reinstall seems to have worked. No Red X or yellow Attentions!! LiveUpdate is working e-mail checking is green. If the "verify subscription" does not pop-up tomorrow, my problems will have been solved. Thanks for your help.

The dreaded red X appeared today along with the pop-up to "Verify subscription". Everything else is working fine. This was the original problem and it continues. This problem is not critical but one of those annoyances that you should not have to contend with in a high quality piece of software. Thanks again, mel, for your help in getting me back to this point.

hi upguy - i take it that you did the steps listed in the LU1814 article. if those failed, you might try #18 on the list from this document.
