Not a typo, just found this in my security history. Anyone got any ideas?
Hi,
can you please tell us the exact version of your Norton product?
1. Open the main window
2. Click on Help & Support -> About menu
3. On the About window find the version number (it will look like this: 5.1.0.29)
Thanks!
Hi, I am running 360 V5.1.0.29 on windows 7 SP1 64bit.
Hi Krusty13,
This first came to light in a thread a few months ago. It is a Norton Product Tamper Protection detection that was introduced fairly recently. It is a misspelling in the description, but otherwise it is simply Norton logging that it has prevented an outside agent from changing a registry key that is being monitored. No cause for concern.
Oh Ok. Many thanks for your reply. I am new to computing and I guess a little suspicious of things I don't know about. Thanks again.

A lot of very knowledgeable experts around here also found the misspelling in this previously unseen log entry somewhat...disquieting. You absolutely should have been suspicious. Bad grammar and spelling should always raise a red flag, no matter what. Remain skeptical and you will avoid a lot of trouble.
Thanks for the advice SendOfJive, I guess we never stop learning.
To stop learning is to stop living - neither is a good option
I have been noticing this also. It's not just an issue with Vista I have Win 7 64 bit Hm Prem. It just started about 1 week ago for me, and was after a lockup in Yahoo Instant Messenger. Now I receive this several times a day, and with dif. PID's and activators. Sometimes several times in a row, and usually several times a day. And after I started receiving this notice I also started receiving the notice Unauthorized Access Blocked,,,,Access Process Data, and this occurs during the same time periods,,,and when I restart my machi8ne Norton allows access to I.E. history files,,which SHOULD have been deleted, and then blocks this access, up to 10 times. This all started at the same time, after YIM locked up and windows shut it down.
Hi Levi40,
I'm not sure what you are seeing in regards to the IE history, but everything else you mention is a Norton Product Tamper Protection event where some program has tried to access a Norton file or process or a protected registry key. Such access attempts are blocked to prevent your system security from being interfered with or compromised. The log entries are for reference purposes and do not reflect any situation that requires user action or worry - basically it is just record keeping.
We had some similar behaviour questoned and questions asked over on the Comcast Forums. The original question was about Regiety being mispelled. I did manage to gather some info from this thread: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Unauthorized-access-blocked-Set-Regietry-Security-Key/m-p/446778 so you may want to read thru that extremely long thread.
The thread @ Comcast is here: http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Security-and-Anti-Virus/Medium-Security-risk-typo/m-p/1090733#M83994 if you are interested in seeing what we decided was happening and also the give away in our opinion was the Leagacy registry key location.
Hope this may prove helpful to some as means of explaination, since it has come up again.

Hi there,
Just like to add my 2 cents worth. Symantec are aware of the mis-spelling.

Hope this helps.

Yup, well awareof it, the first thread I referenced is from May of this year and it was mispelled then already, but thanks for theinfo!
Well everything I'm reading, says there is no threat from this, but every time it happens, my product won't update. Is that not a problem?
Hi Levi40,
What product are you referring to? Does the program crash, lose connectivity or just fail to update? Most likely it is coincidental that the program wants to access Norton and also is having an issue updating. But there are known cases where a program will get pouty when Norton blocks it, so it is possible that this could be happening. Try turning off Norton Product Tamper Protection temporarily to see if the program can update.
I am talking about Norton. If you try to update Norton within an hr of this being logged it will not update. I stated this before in a previous post.
