Setting IE as the default browner and Outlook 2010 problem

Norton Security keeps requesting that I change my default browser from Edge to IE in Windows 10.  I understand the need to do this but doing so creates a problem with Outlook 2010.  I'm hoping that someone has come up with a solution to this problem as I'm not finding a permanent fix anywhere.

When I change my default browser from Edge to IE I can open an app and click on a link to a web page such as the Program Update link in CCleaner and page is opened in IE.  I can also paste a hyperlink into a Word 2010 doc and when I press CTRL+Click on that link the page is also opened in IE.  However if I'm in an HTML-based email in Outlook 2010 and I click on a link in the email IE does not open.  Instead, a prompt appears on the screen asking if you want to continue using Internet Explorer or use Edge instead of whether you want go to the app store and seek another application.  Even though IE is the selected (highlighted) app in this prompt and there's a check box at the bottom asking if you want to use IE every time, the check box does not work and the prompt will reappear the next time you click on a link in Outlook 2010.  On the other hand......  If you leave Edge as the default browser and you click on a link in Outlook 2010 no prompt appears.

So I'm torn....  Norton wants me to change the default browser to IE but if I do, I'm going to be faced with ongoing prompts unless someone has a solution to this issue.  On the other hand, if I leave Edge as the default I'm putting my system at risk.  Has anyone run into this and come up with a solution that's permanent?
