Severe bugs with N360 and Windows 11 x64

Hi all,

A). Update from N360 version 22.21.9 to 22.21.10 with the use of RestartManager, (Apply Now button), does nothing. Not even a "Restart Now" message from N360 GUI.

I had to reboot 2 times, one to install the new version and second to install the NGC Product update. (reproducible on 2 systems).

B). Backup is set to OFF. Every 5 days, the N360 GUI, switches from the Security tab to Backup tab from his own, AND a Desktop shortcut is created automatically.

Annoying.

C). LiveUpdate set to OFF.  After 5-6 days, without new defs thus no new Quick Scan,, whenever user is manually running LU, once it completes, N360 automatically starts a Quick Scan. This is highly unwanted behavior. Quick Scan should start when pc is idle and NOT by his own.

Please fix... asap...

Kindest regards,

I'll have to leave A: to those that have Win 11 installed.

As for C:, that has been the way Norton has worked for many years. You may or may not have noticed it depending on what you were doing at the time. It is by design, and if you do not like it, you can make a suggestion for a change as I noted above.

Hi Peter and thank you.

I think you somehow misunderstood my comments.

Let's start:

A.) Normally, when user runs LU, and if a new product version is available, after completion, you see a N360 window stating : "Apply Now". When you click on it, you see the screen flashing, because Norton restarts explorer.exe in order to apply the product immediately. Under W 11 when you do this, nothing happens, it's like Norton product installer has difficulties to restart explorer.exe and apply the patch. You do do see the sequence, "closing Apps," "Updating Product", "restarting applications". Nothing happens..  The  Norton update  rebootless installer  cannot start.

With previous OS'es I always do that the new version is installed and after installation,  as a precaution measure, I also reboot my pc's.  But new version is already installed,. Do you see the difference?

C.) After a new set of defs is downloaded, Norton should trigger a Quick Scan when the pc reaches the idle timeout set by user and not automatically.

Maybe a new product behavior??

With versions, 22.21.9 and later, this does not happening. As soon as manual LU  finishes, the Quick Scan starts immediately, after a few seconds.

Not expected behavior. Again, this happens if user has not used pc for a few days, so upon boot, the Norton icon is red X, normal because there was defs inactivity for several days. The point is that Quick Scan should not start immediately but once the idle timeout user setting is reached after LU completion.

Hope it's a bit more clear.

Kind regards,

A: is normal and is described in the product update announcement .

3. How can I manually install these patches?

This patch is ONLY available via LiveUpdate, and is being released in a phased manner. You may need to run LiveUpdate and reboot a few times before your product is completely updated to the latest version.

B:  I have not seen this on my Win 10. Maybe others can comment here. Plus I have not been able to upgrade to Win 11 because of my CPU, so cannot test that.

C:  A quick scan is set to run after a LiveUpdate when there are new malware definitions are updated. That is to ensure that your system does not have any malware that would be detected by the new defs. The quick scan should not take that long on any system and should not be too intrusive.  I just ran one on my system and it took just over a minute. This is by design, so nothing to fix. This might be a good suggestion for the Product Suggestions board https://community.norton.com/forums/product-suggestions

Just to add to my previous post, that issues: B.) & C.) also occur on Windows 10 x64 and Windows 7 x64.

Issue A.) No.
