SharePort won't run after a re-boot on XP

i am running windows XP with NIS 18.5.0.125. i installed D-Link's utility SharePort in order to get to USB storage hooked up to the router. however.... after i reboot, i cannot get to the shared storage that i could get to after installing the program. i have called D-Link and they pointed me to a firewall problem. if i turn off the MIS firewall, i can get to the storage, but after the firewall is turned back on, i can't.

i looked at the Program Control and SharePort is there. I have 'fiddled' with the rules and can't get anything to work. currently the "rules" for the SharePort program 'connect.exe' are:

Allow: Direction: Outbound, Computer: Any, Communications: Specific (remote domain port 53), Protocol: TCP and UDP

Allow: Direction: In/Out, Computer: Any, Communication: Any, Protocol UDP

I do NOT have this problem on my Win7 systems.

any help would be appreciated
