Should ActiveX Installer Service be turned on for NIS 2009 on Vista pcs?

Codydog,

The ActiveX Installer Service is an optional Windows Vista service.  It is optionally installed on Vista Ultimate, Vista Business, and Vista Enterprise.  It allows non-administrative users to install ActiveX controls from pre-defined (and pre-approved) sites without requiring administrative privileges.  This allows IT administrators in a corproation to maintain a list "permitted controls", apply this list to a group of users.  Now the group of users can continue to run as non-administrative users, and still perform their daily business functions without calling IT everytime a permitted ActiveX control is updated.

Without this service, the standard Vista workflow is followed.  In order to install an ActiveX control (like the Flash player), administrative privileges are required.  If UAC (user account control) is enabled, you will be presented with the consent / credentials prompt. If it is not enabled, you will need to ensure you have administrative rights in order to complete the installation.

Hi and thanks for the comments.

If NIS doesnt need it to run, just telling me so would have been great.

Thanks again
