Should I do a clean reinstall of Ghost 14.0

Over the last couple of weeks the time taken to boot my computer extended to the point where it could take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes.    I am running Windows XP sp3 on AMD 64 x 2 dual core processor 4000+ with 1 GB RAM.

I took the computer to have it investigated and the "solution" was to remove the Norton products NIS and Ghost 14.0.   When they were gone the boot time dropped dramatically.

NIS 2009 (16.8.0.41) has been re-installed and things are still going at a reasonable pace.  I haven't yet reinstalled Ghost 14.0 nor connected the external drive (Maxstor one touch 4 plus 500GB USB2.0).

When Ghost  was running, it was set up for scheduled backups.   I would have thought its impact on the system at boot up was just to check the clock.  However I do wonder if it was checking a lot more every time.

I am concerned what will happen if I reinstall Ghost.  I am expecially wondering whether anything on the external disk could be contributing to the slow bootup.  I see files under the File Backup  Data folder that I think should have been deleted under the backup cycle strategy.

Whilst it would be nice just to install Ghost again and carry on with my current backup sets, it might be more sensible to clean them all off and start again.  The trouble is  I don't know what to remove.   It is just a case of removing Norton Backups and VproRecovery or is there more hidden stuff?

I would welcome any advice.

Derek.
