Should processing updates take this long?

I just installed NIS 2012 on a laptop. After install I went ahead and ran first live update.

All the updates are downloaded  and the process updates box is green and says completed, but the program is still finishing processing and it is now going on 25 minutes. I dont remember it takinbg this long when I installed NIS on my PC.

Does it sound like the installation is compromised?

Its a compaq laptop

vista home premium SP2

I'm on cable internet

Its a laptop that had NIS 2011 on it. But it was removed via add/remove programs and NRT

The NIS 2012 installed without issue

I was able to connect to the Symantec Services and able to download a BUNCH of updates

there were like 20 updates and it shows all installed downloaded and all installed.

But the" finishing process " bar thing keeps rolling for about 30 mins now

should I cancel and reinstall the NIS?

I know it is having to install a LOT of updates since this is the initial disk tha came out for NIS 2012

should I disconnect the Laptop from the inernet?

Calls.. just reboot.. sometimes it hangs.. had the same, reboot OS and update NIS again..

I cant even get the laptop to shut down

Ok had to hard shut the laptop down by holding down the power button. I think the laptop battery was low.

So Restarted laptop back up and had the message about it being shut down abruptly and if i wanted to restart in safe mode or normal. Since I knew why it was shut down, I chose normal mode
So I checked NIS live update log and NO updates were installed.
So I’m thinking I should uninstall / reinstall NIS to make sure that there was not an installation problem

My wife thinks we do not need to do that, just let battery charge up and then run live update again.

Which is recommended? Uninstall/reinstall? Or just run live update?

Just hook your laptop on power supply on the wall, and update NIS again... let it roll and see how it goes...

-btw.. I'm dutch and don't know how it's called, when you use the power from the wall to power up your laptop.. lol :D
