Issue abstract:Is this a false positive?
Detailed description: Sibelius ultimate has just released their latest update (2025.7). When running the install, Norton flags up a virus warning. The only way to proceed is a restart, after which the whole install is wiped. As AVID Sibelius is a trustworthy supplier, is this possibly a false positive?
Product & version number Sibelius Ultimate 2025.7
OS details:Windows 11
What is the error message you are seeing? Virus warning when trying to install Sibelius update. Only way forward is restart.
If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them:
@John_Elliott Do you still have a copy of the installer for this software? If so you can submit it here for a review. This will give you some better information about whether you are seeing a false flag or if something is genuinely going on.
Unfortunately, the file is too big to submit for review. (864mb in Zipped format). Is there another way to submit this file for checking? It is very likely to be a false positive, but obviously I would prefer to know.
No, that is only for the free trial version. I have the full, paid version.
The file was not listed as suspicious on VirusTotal, which leads me to believe that it is a false positive. I am, however, still unable to install the update pemanently, despite adding the .exe file to Exclusions in Norton 360.
That said, it might be worth downloading that ultimate-trial/ version to see if you get a positive. The installation files tend to be identical, and the permissions stored on your PC determine the level of installation. I’m just not sure if that applies to the trial version. The only way to get the update installed is to turn of Norton completely, which is not satisfactory. I hope that in a few weeks there will have been enough downloads to improve the file’s reputation.
I have the exact same problem/ Maddening would be an understatement. It won’t even work if I disable Norton auto protect. 100% legit software from a reliable supplier.
@John_Elliott@Michael_Ben-Gershon May I suggest removal of Norton and allowing Defender to have a look at this as well. If Defender nails it there is more to this than a Norton issue.
Without any doubt there is a continuing issue with Norton detection services. Just far too aggressive. Thank you for following through with testing things out.
Where do I go from here? I need Sibelius for my work. It would be nice to have the most up to date version, but Norton won’t allow it to run. I don’t want to uninstall Norton 360 and lose the normal security features. Will Norton be addressing this?
I can escalate to the forums Admin hoping there to be a ticket created. No guarantees for a fix or date/time for that.
Edited: I escalated the thread for action, the link appears in the first post of the thread. However you cannot access that link as it is private. Rest assured the message will be reviewed. In the interim someone from Norton may contact you via the forums message center about the issue. Keep an eye open for a possible message. Hoping this helps in getting this resolved.

@bjm Downloading isn’t the issue unfortunately, installation of an update to the existing install is being nailed. Yes it IS indeed to large for submission and review as posted earlier in my escalation posting.
Well, if you allow a few moments. I’ll try…
I’m trying to find minimum system requirements…my entry level machine may not satisfy system requirements…stay tuned…I’ll be back asap…
