I have Norton Internet Security 17.7.0.12.
I keep getting these popups while I am working that says "Norton is doing a background scan."
"Norton is doing a full system scan." "Norton has found threats and taken care of them" etc.
I have to stop and click on the "x" to close the window. This is very annoying and also sometimes
I am in the middle of rendering a scene or something similiar and it messes up my work. (My
computer is an old one" Will running it in silent mode take care of this? (I have had two messages
pop up while I am writing this.) Or if silent mode is not the trick, how can I stop these popups?
I am sure there is a easy solution, I am just not sure what it is.
Thanks,
Bill

HI Bill
Going to silent mode should stop the pop-ups whilst you are working. The new 2011 products will have the ability to turn off these pop-ups.
You can configure silent mode, under miscellaneous settings, to kick in when specific programs are used. Click the configure link next to "User Specified Programs" and add your program.
Hi wayneout:
Silent mode should solve the problem. It sounds as though the machine has not had enough time to complete a full system background scan. Every time you stop working to think for 10 minutes, the background scan will start up again.
When you are working with sensitive apps, turn silent mode on for whatever time you need. You can also add the programs that require it in the silent mode configuration, so that it will turn on automatically when you call up that app.
You should allow sufficient idle time when you can for the scan to complete. Then you won't be bothered for a week.
Thanks for the replies. I will set up silent mode for the programs that I use the most.
