My child is blocked from web sites which are obviously educational and also categorized in Norton SafeWeb as educational.
Detailed description:
Sites missing a category or have the wrong category in Norton Family however have the right category in SafeWeb. I then need to unblock them in school mode and web which is time consuming.
There used to be a way to quickly submit a category change, but Norton removed it.
My ask is that Norton use SafeWeb categories so that there is less blocking and less me needed to whitelist sites.
Or at least make it easier to white list sites such as when the child asks for a site to be unblocked, let us do it in one click from the email.
Sorry for the incovenience caused, we are working on categorization for the given URLs, please give us sometime we shall update here once it is properly categorized.
You can try using Norton Family Parent App (if you are not using already), to approve requests instantly through push notifications.
The Norton Family app doesn’t show notifications when the child asks for access.
Can you please adress that Norton family categorisation is so poor?
Why isnt it leveraging Norton SafeWeb categories?
Why isnt there a quick and simple way to categorise URLs?
The category issues are addressed for the previously reported URLs and all of them are categorized as education now except util.logitech.io, which is categorized as Technology. We are working on categorization for the recent two URLs that you have reported.
Please note that, we have updated the technology behind our web filtering that’s why we see some differences in web categorization. We are constantly working on improving the expereince. Please feel free to reach out to us for any further issues, we will be happy to help.
Thanks however I don’t consider this issue fully solved.
As I mentioned several times, I am interested in a less time-consuming solution that either allows quick categorisation, or for Norton to automatically categorise the requests leveraging their existing resources such as SafeWeb.
I note that when I evaluated the the product (during trial) I was able to submit categories from the Norton Family web site. Since then the feature to submit categorisation was removed.
I would like to know WHEN would this be fully resolved?
Maybe, try reporting the site through your child’s activity log >> alert the Norton Family team to the categorization error:
Sign In: Log into your Norton Family Parent Portal.
Select Child: Click on the child’s profile whose activity shows the miscategorized site.
Find Activity: Go to the Web activity tab and locate the specific website entry.
Dispute: Click on the activity entry and select Dispute the website’s categorization.
Submit Details: Enter the email address and your suggested category, then submit.
=====================================
Maybe, try reporting categorization mismatch between Norton Safe Web (which correctly identifies the site as “Games”) and Norton Family (which incorrectly identifies it as “Gambling”) >> using the Norton Submission Portal.
Submit with a specific “Family Mismatch” note
Even though you’ve checked Safe Web, you can use the Norton Submission Portal to flag the category discrepancy.
Select URL Submission and enter the link.
If the rating appears correct on this screen (matching Safe Web), click Submit Dispute anyway.
In the Comments section, explicitly state: “Norton Safe Web correctly identifies this as Games, but Norton Family is currently blocking it as Gambling. Please sync the Norton Family database with the Safe Web rating.”.

Maybe, confirm Norton Family browser extension is active and updated on the child’s browser (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox). Sometimes an outdated extension can cause inconsistent behavior.
I tried from the norton family portal, there is no option to re-categorize.
The other suggestion to use the submission portal seems to update safeweb, and as I reported originally norton family unfortunately doesnt use safeweb. If it would we would not have this problem.
The third advice about extension is irrelevant.
@Suyambu did you ever deal with the root cause of the problem , which is that norton famliy categories arent the same as in safeweb?!
As we mentioned earlier, we have updated the technology behind our web filtering and the new filtering service doesn’t provide a way to dispute website like before.
The other two URLs that you have reported earlier, are already categorized as Education. Please feel free to reach out to us for any URL categorization issues, we will be happy to assist. geometrycontest.com, auth.grokusercontent.com.
