When I have tryed to open skype and spotify the applications won't work. Skype trys to login but then says it cannot access the internet and when I open spotify it says there is no internet connection. I uninstalled spotify and then tried to install it again and I get a message from Norton in the corner saying spotify installer was blocked from accessing the internet. I could really use some help trying to get these two applications to work. Thanks!

Welcome,
What are the error messages - the exact text?
Also, what is your operating system and the version of 360 you are running?
Thanks
Hi collegestudent,
If you are using the latest version of Norton 360, check if "Skype" and "Spotify" are set to "allow" access in "program control". To change the settings, open Norton 360, Settings ---> Network/Firewall ---> program control/ program rules and select the program and then set access to "allow". Apply the changes and then close all Norton windows and then try to run Skype and Spotify. It should work :)
Cheers!
Dick,
I am using Windows 7 and I have Norton 360 premier edition. For skype I type my username and password in and press enter and it trys to load for a while and then comes with an error message that says skype cannot connect. Because I uninstalled spotify to see if that was the problem, I've tried to download it again and in the corner of my screen a message from Norton says "Spotify installer was blocked from accessing the interest."
Hi collegestudent,
Please try the steps I have provided and check!!!
Ullaz, I don't see anything listed at all when I go into program rules.
Hi collegestudent,
Which version of Norton 360 are you using? You can check the version of Norton 360 from Support ---> About. If the version if something other than 20.x, you should update it to the latest version after removing it using Norton Removal Tool, www.symantec.com/nrt . If you have the 20.x version installed, try to add the programs Skype and Spotify from the "program rules" page itself. And when you add the programs, navigate to the root directory of the programs as in "program files". Try launching the programs after applying the changes.
Cheers!
It worked! Thanks so much for your help!!!
You are welcome :) Norton some times blocks internet connection for these programs because it checks for unexpected behaviors and network requests from them and if it detects anything suspicious, Norton will block them.
Cheers!
I am having the same issue.
I go onto my firewall settings -> Program rules and there is nothing there, nor can I add or modify anything. Norton will not allow me. The only way Spotify will work for me is if I disable firewall first, then load spotify, everytime I log in!
Any help would be much appreciated.
Hi LancsUni,
What happens when you try to add the program path in the "program control" option?
Or is the "add" option greyed out?
Cheers!
Am having the same problem. When I try to add nothing comes up.
Hi Rockwood,
Are you able to add the program path? You only need to add if the program is not already displayed in the list.
- Cheers!
Hello!
I go to Program Rules, no programs are shown, I click on 'Add' and nothing happens at all.
I am using Norton 360, version 20.3.0.36. My Spotify is getting an error code that it cannot connect to the Internet (http://support.spotify.com/us/problems/#!/article/Error-code-101-126). When I go to Norton 360-->Settings-->Firewall-->Program Rules, there are no programs listed. When I press the "Add" button, absolutely nothing happens. It has only worked when I have turned off the Smart Firewall.

This sounds like you are using a standard Windows user account. You need to log in a administrator and then make the changes.
While you are there, you can change a setting in Norton to allow you to make changes to the Norton program while using a standard Windows account. Under Settings, look for Product Security and turn on Non-Admins Access to Settings.
The program wasn't working properly. When I hit add no other window came up. I had to run uninstall tool and re-install Norton........thanks anyway.

That would be my next suggestion if my previous suggestions do not work.
For others wishing to do this, you can use the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool.
Download the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool from here www.norton.com/nrnr
If you use Identity Safe, backup/export your data. Use the CSV format for compatibility.
Run the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool.
Reboot.
Run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.
Try to log into your Identity Safe. If you can, you are done. If not, Import your Identity Safe data.
Thank you very much!
Uninstalling and reinstalling worked in the end,
Thanks again!
