Have a look through recent messages here and you'll see at least one about a similar popup invasion and how the user removed it.
Keep an eye on this thread for specific advice.
Thanks for you reply, but can you direct me to the thread with a similar problem. I must admit that i have looked over other threads without coming across similar issues.
Sorry but I don't have a link to it and couldn't track it through search but it was a report of a pop-up warning of dire infections of the PC which is a typical advertising scam to sell a program that you may not need.
I thought it might relate even if indirectly. Hang on until someone comes up with something directly helpful.
On the premis that it is wise to use more than one resource when available I suggest that you also post this in the Removing Spyware and Viruses sections of the Windows Bullitin Board.
They have some pretty shrp people in there as well.
I would recommend scanning in Safe Mode to detect the malware. Additionally, at the bottom of every board is a list of Tags, and you should see a “malware” tag. That will direct you to all the malware issues on this Forum. Thanks!
In reading numerous forums, i tried a program called SUPERantispyware which sounds like a dodgy program initially, but to my surprise worked quite well. It managed to find issues which no other spy catcher could find.
It found vundo.variant adware which i deleted straight away. it also found downloader. In rebooting my machine and searching again the following day, it found someone. Not sure whether the trojan reinserts itself at every reboot.
However the pop ups are now gone and the internet is faster, BUT i now find that i cannot access site like yahoo.com and Google search does not work.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening,
Do you know which Vundo Trojan was on your system? What about the other threat that was found and removed? It sounds like there still might be an infection on your system. Make sure your virus definitions are up to date, and perform a manual full scan in safe mode. Also, if you know the Vundo type that was on your system, there is most likely a fix tool on the Symantec website.
Hi p33kev,
Another idea is to try Norton Antibot and see if it helps detecting and cleaning up your system. You can download a trial version of it at:
Hope this helps
