I recently renewed my subscription and following the install the start up time was seriously slowed down. I was also seeing 2 or 3 Norton icons in my taskbar tray. After using Start Up manager to no avail I found this solution regarding the icons and after changing the default setting in Antivirus boot time protection from "off" to Normal the start up speed improved considerably.
This is more a comment than a question I guess, but why would the default setting be "off" when that affords the least amount of protection. I don't know if that changed between the 2013 & 2014 versions, but I'm guessing that most users leave the default settings alone.

IMHO and I have no proof of this, the default was changed with either 2013 ( I believe) products from Normal to Off in order to decrease the system boot up time. The marketing folks can say "This product has a faster system boot time than the previous version." But they do not go further and say it also delays the protection from Norton.
We have found out that Normal works and in some cases (and it seems to vary by user) Aggresive is an even better option. I agree that most users leave the Default settings as they are - until they have a situation and are advised to change the setting. Personally, I'd rather sacrfice a bit of boot time to get my system protected ASAP!
As AudiA1 has said, Norton is aware of the double Icons in the System Tray. BTW, do you by chance have Norton Zone installed? It can also display a Norton Icon in the system tray - although slightly different as it does not include the "globe".
Thanks for you comments. Changing the default to Normal did rectify my issue. I was not running Norton Zone. As far as the "start up" time, not sure if it was the actual boot up or Norton. I'm not a super techie and like most people I measure that time from the point I turn on the computer to the point where I can actually use it. Whatever was going on was bogging down resources to the point where it was taking 8-10 minutes before I could open up a web browser or the Task Manager. It's now down to about 3 minutes.
