Very interesting thread! I had my own odd problems with trying to 'Sign on' to my Norton account on my desktop. Laptop with the exact Win OS (& updates) was fine and has Smart Scan. I used the same Amazon bought license key (Norton prices about 4x more $$) but my desktop would not sign-on. Did several uninstalls in different ways, even cleaned up Registry, no luck. Finally just waited, after a Restart; and bam!... was able to Sign-in next day!!. That has been over a week ago, still no 'Smart Scan'. Had it before the new key debacle. Don't really miss it, like someone said in the thread, its just a compilation of other scans with the marketing aspect. Don't miss it!
xjoex:How is this even possible?
Norton reserves the right to change Norton at any time without notice.
Smart Scan has returned to my Norton 360 after about a week reprise.
How is this even possible?
This is very strange behavior. I have never seen that popup screen from Norton.
xjoex:The foibles that surround Norton are just too mysterious for this universe.
I have not seen hide nor hare of Smart Scan in 3 days now. Maybe they think I do not need it? And you do?
No, I do not need it.
Happy to hear...you're machine is behaving. Maybe, my product serial number is not one of the chosen ones.
What happened last go around...happened this go around, too.

Norton throws this full page popup and then moments later...Smart Scan reappears.

The foibles that surround Norton are just too mysterious for this universe.
I have not seen hide nor hare of Smart Scan in 3 days now. Maybe they think I do not need it? And you do?
@xjoex
and Smart Scan has returned

and Protection Report

@mgirons
Smart Scan is a Quick Scan plus a network scan plus a marketing tool to sell other software. You can do all this other ways and avoid the sales pitch. If someone wants it so be it but I am glad to be rid of it.
@bjm_
Now you got it! Or maybe better to say you got rid of it!
~ clean(er) new install

Always thought Smart Scan was something different to Full & Quick Scan - according to their web page it is!
https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v7786102
You can perform the following types of manual scans:
-
Smart Scan: Runs security, performance, and network scans, and provides solutions to keep your digital life secured.
-
Quick Scan: Scans the areas of your computer that viruses and other security risks often target.
-
Full Scan: Scans the entire computer that includes the boot records, files, and the running processes to which the user has access.
-
Custom Scan: Scans the specific files, folders, or drives that you choose.
LOL again.
Maybe all those agents on "X" were correct.
Well, I'm still unknowing why - day one after my clean install

and day two
LOL.
Sounds like you got the answer if you take certain parts of what each agent said and jumble it all up. I prefer this community twenty times over to calling or reaching support in any manner.
just for giggles:
paste from my X conversation (not the same agent nor same day)
X agent| I totally understand your concern is smart scan and I would like to inform you that we are removing smart scan but it takes time to make the changes.
X agent| The smart scan feature is campaign-based features and appear only if product serial number is targeted for the campaign.
X agent| smart scan is a promotional scan as now you get the advertisements (Ads), promotional pop-ups or offers via notifications or via emails so smart scan is no longer available.
X agent| I do understand your concern and it is because the new update is applied. We are not removing the smart scan but we are just making new changes to the user interface. In the past, all the scan option like full scan, quick scan and smart scan were available to the user but a shortcut to run smart scan was there and now we have a shortcut to run quick scan.
X agent| I would like to inform you that we still have smart scan option and it might be removed from the dashboard but it can still be found under scan options.
X agent| Yes, I would like to inform you that with the new Norton update smart scan feature is no longer available on the Norton application so if you want to run the scan in your Norton application you can run quick scan and full system scan.
X agent| I would like to inform you that Smart scan is still available in Norton.
X agent| I would like to inform you that in new update smart scan is not available but in previous applications which are already downloaded, the smart scan is available
X agent| I would like to inform you that in some devices smart scan is available but in some devices not. This feature is no longer available.
xjoex:I think the support agents say different things to placate the caller and do not actually solve any of the issues.
I told the agent exactly that...agents tell Users what they think Users want to hear.
Let us know - if Smart Scan returns.
I think the support agents say different things to placate the caller and do not actually solve any of the issues.
Sometimes they read from a script on their computer screen that addresses some general problems and other times give common sense answers that are not what the caller is needing.
I think they try but I do not have any faith in their ability to solve issues.
xjoex:No "Smart Scan" on Security->Scans just "Quick Scan".
Hmm...another piece of misinformation from our friends at Norton support?
and just now
I would like to inform you that Smart scan is still available in Norton. - X agent
No "Smart Scan" on Security->Scans just "Quick Scan".
xjoex:I did a clean install of Norton 360 removing all Norton installation files via CCleaner and then reinstalled from my download online access. I have version 22.23.10.10 without any Smart Scan (and that makes me happy).
Maybe, I'll try another clean install...including registry. Support agent advised yesterday...changes will be (as usual) throttled by product serial number. So, maybe my "clean" wasn't clean enough. Or, my product serial number wasn't chosen.
@xjoex
Do you still have Smart Scan with Security => Scans?
Support agent insisted Smart Scan even with Smart Scan buttons removed from dashboards...remains with Security => Scans.
