Solution for Potential Problem Upgrading for NIS

Hey all!  Earlier I had encountered a problem when trying to upgrade NIS2008 to NIS2009 on my Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 32bit.  I thought I'd share what I did to solve the problem to others who may encountered the same.

Problem:

NIS2009 installation started off with uninstallation process; choosing either option (partial/full) uninstallation will cause the progress bar to freeze at 94%.  Using Norton Removal Tool to remove NIS2008 prior to 2nd attempt of installation did not solve the problem.

Issue:

Norton Removal Tool couldn't remove some of the files in "Program Files/Common Files" and/or AppData.  Thus NIS2009 installation still see the presence of previous versions.

Solution:

I tried to manually delete the folders but for me it gave me a "No permission" message, even though I'm logged in with administrator rights.  Thus, I activated the hidden administrator account in Vista by following the instructions on <http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/vista/vista_administrator_activate.htm>.  Log-off and then login as "Administrator".  Navigate to the "Program Files\Common Files" folder and then delete the "Symantec Shared" and other folders.  Restart and try installing NIS2009 again.

NOTE: The solution steps are performed AFTER attempted to run the Norton Removal Tool.  Also be CAREFUL when deleting the folders.

It worked for me and I hope this will help others.
