This week I have left my computer atleast 5 times and come back later to find an adware popup on my screen from Norton. It shows a brief area on the bottom left of the dialog with results from a scan on private folders I did not authorize. It says I am not protected and asks me to buy the product. I have never installed any Norton product on my computer and I am fully protected by my ISP's free services.
Adware from an anti-virus scanner absolutely disgusts me. How do I remove this, as I can't figure out what is making it pop up?

If this is in fact Norton Security scan it would have been offered as an add-on to some other software you downloaded as SendOfJive mentioned. Once installed there is no reason why it would present an uninstall option as it is like any other software that once installed it just does its thing.
It should be easy enough to get rid of.
Also please see the following Symantec KB article:
I got rid of it through a regular uninstall thx, however I still don't understand why it would keep popping up after I say no. Being an anti adware company, Norton knows that most adware is just an annoyance rather than a threat. This is a classic adware annoyance and reflects the company in a negative way.
If Norton is allowed to do it, why is it restricting other companies from doing the same thing? Seems a bit hypocritical to me...
