Hi
First of all, I'd like to congratulate Norton/Symantec on reprogramming the latest Internet Security package and making it much more easy on the resources. I've recently read a few reviews on the 2009 suite which all praise how fast it is, and so far, I'm impressed.
My last Norton software I bought was about 5 years ago which is when it started getting way too bloated for my liking.
Anyway, as happy as I am, I bought the full suite about 2 weeks ago and installed it. No problems at all installing on this new Vista PC.
I decided to also install it on an old PC I have in this house for the sole purpose to download adware/spyware software to see how good it is at catching malware. I set all the settings to high security, to scan everything with the latest updates etc. but it still lets certain known adware onto the PC. Mywebsearch is one of the adware programs that surely Norton should catch, but certainly doesn't. It allows it to be installed, to hijack the browser search bar. It starts popping ads up almost instantly and even after a full scan from NIS09, it shows nothing up.
In the end, I installed spyware terminator which is an excellent free scanner, to kill the process and get shut of Mysearchbar and its components, and it also protects the PC from it installing again.
I was under the impression that NIS09 was supposed to stop adware getting onto the PC, as the adware/spyware tabs are all checked.
Also, on the Vista PC, every now and then, IE7 freezes up and I have to manually shut it down and restart IE. It works fine without NIS09 on it. (I was using Kaspersky IS2009 before reinstalling Vista for a fresh start with NIS09)
Considering that this is a brand new PC with a fresh install of Vista Premium, I'm sure it isn't a conflict with any other software.
I have no other security software on the Vista PC either.
Your comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Phil.
