im using NIS2012

Is your Windows user account an 'Administrator' or a 'Standard user'? Both of those settings will be disabled if you are using a Standard user account.

If this occurred in a User account and you want to be able to control things from the User side, here's how you do it.  If you sign on as an Administrator and open the Settings of NIS, under the subtopic "Miscellaneous Settings" there is an option to allow "non-administrator accounts access to settings".   In the 2011 version at least, if you allow that, then the user account can also not only access the settings, but can turn things on/off via right-click on the system tray icon as well.

I can only assume that feature is present in 2012 Settings as well, but hopefully someone will correct me if that is wrong.

I would recommend also password-protecting the settings, even if you usually surf the Internet from the User account as recommended, and especially if you give User access to settings.  That way if any malicious attempt is made to gain control of your computer, they can't turn off your NIS just by accessing the settings menu or the systray icon.

If you ARE logged into admin account, try restarting PC to enable those settings (no longer grayed out). Could be a slight glitch. Same thing occured to me and restarted and it no longer happen again.

I had a similair experience with initial Upgrade to 19.1.0.28

I have two Admin Accounts.   Default Admin and User Created Admin.  User Created Admin was OK.

Default Admin had some greyed out UI and Settings.   A hard start from Default Admin and all colors were back.

It is possible it is caused by the 19.1.1.3 patch. I saw the same thing, run LiveUpdate manually (it was up to date) but the program wanted to Reboot. After the reboot everything is green OK.

So a reboot should fix the problem.
